MIFF launches during 57th Berlinale
The MIFF board held a press conference in Hotel Berlin, Berlin on the 12th of February during the 57th Berlinale to announce the details of the 1st Malta International Film Festival. Hisham Abdel Khalek “Festival founder and director”, Charles Frendo “Financial Director”, Gianluca Matarrese “Press and Media Director”, Olivier Delesse “Film Market Director”, Patricia Falzon “PR Director”, Jean Claude Legrand “International Coordination Director”, Anthony Cardona “Communication Director” and Khalid Mohamed “Information and Technology Director” attended the conference. The festival director Hisham Abdel Khalek gave precise information about the event and answered to the questions of the journalists and final arrangements of MIFF as well as the screening of MIFF promo. Also Khalek announced three of the films selected for the official competition including: The Israeli film “Sweet Mud” directed by Dror Shaul which was represented in Sundance Film Festival as well as Berlin International Film Festival, the second-biggest film at the Israeli box office and Israel's official representative at the Oscars, looks at life on a 1970s Israeli kibbutz. The first Saudi feature film Kief El Hal “How are you?” directed by Izidaore Musallam and produced by the leading TV and Cinema production middle east group “Rotana Audiovisual”. The film speaks about the recent life in Saudi Arabia and the relation between the Islamic fundamentalists and the society. The first Egyptian big-budget musical extravaganza since the 60’s Mafish Gheir Keda “None But That !” directed by Khaled El Hagar. Mafish Gheir Keda has a star-studded cast crossing at least three different generations. Topping the bill is box office sensation Nabila Ebeid, returning to the silver screen after a three-year hiatus following her starring role in Qasaqis El-Oshaq (Lovers’ Snippets). (Malta International Film Festival) For the first time Malta will celebrate International Cinema in a huge international film festival under the name of “Malta International Film Festival” from the 15th till 23rd September 2007. The event is organized by – Association pour l'échange culturel entre l'Europe et l'Orient (AECEO) an association based in Paris with the cooperation of AraMage Artistic Production, a leading international production company and AJR Events a leading event management company in Malta with the support of the Maltese Ministry of tourism and culture. The festival board has approached a number of international celebrities to participate in the first round as guests, tributes and jury members. Also a number of international cinema organizations and companies have been approached to participate in this event. The festival will have more than five different sections with an international competition for long feature films. An international film market will be held during the festival with participation of more than 50 international companies and organizations than and the festival will held more than ten different activities. The festival aims to promote Malta as a desirable film shooting location and to open a dialogue between cinema professionals all over the world.
