KALIBER35 Munich Int'l Short Film Festival Official Selection 2013 announced
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 35 SHORT FILMS, 21 COUNTRIES, 24 GERMAN PREMIERES
In less than three weeks, the annual KALIBER35 Munich International Short Film Festival will take place on June 20th to 26th. Now, the festival has announced the 35 films running in its International Competition. Out of more than 2.000 submissions, festival programmer Silvia Osellini picked films from 21 countries including Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Israel and Iran. Some of the films selected have already achieved success among the most important festivals of the world, such as Cannes, Sundance, Berlinale, Tampere and Clermont-Ferrand, while all of them will be screened in Munich for the first time as Bavarian, 24 of them even as German premieres. FIVE PROGRAMS: SWEET, SOUR, SALTY, BITTER & UMAMI
In order to avoid too rigid divisions in genres and themes, we present our selection in the usual "tasty" categories. From the happy ending, light-hearted films of the SWEET program and the arty, more dramatic stories of the BITTER screenings to the experimental, video art-films of the UMAMI section, KALIBER35 offers a selection that is able to please everyone's taste. With such richness and diversity of styles, themes and origins, KALIBER35 continues to give interesting insights about how the crucial issues of our contemporary world are addressed by different cultures from the five continents. The protagonists of the selected films often struggle to understand and find their place in a world that is sometimes cryptic and obscure or just to confront their fears in the pursuit of happiness and freedom to live their own lives.
NEW VENUES: MONOPOL-KINO & FILMTHEATER SENDLINGER TOR
KALIBER35 also proudly announces the collaboration with Monopol-Kino and Filmtheater Sendlinger Tor which will be the festival's venues in 2013.
While the usual high traffic at the KURZ&KNAPP (SHORT&TIGHT) Award Ceremony on Sunday night will be satisfied at the traditional Filmtheater Sendlinger Tor (Sendlinger-Tor-Platz 11, Station Sendlinger Tor), the screenings Thursday to Saturday and Monday thru Friday will take place at Munich's youngest and most innovative movie temple, the Monopol-Kino at Schleissheimer Strasse 127 (Station Nordbad). Festival passes, valid for all screenings of the International Competition including the Opening Cocktail on Thursday June 20th and the International Competition's Award Ceremony on Wednesday, June 26th can be bought online at the festival's website http://www.kaliber35.de/tickets.html for 35 Euros, while tickets for the single screenings (8 Euros each, reduced 7 Euros) are available at the box office of Monopol-Kino and Filmtheater Sendlinger Tor.
