DELEGATION FROM THE SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL VISITED FANTASPORTO
FANTASPORTO WELCOMED, THIS THURSDAY IN PORTO, A DELEGATION FROM THE SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (SIFF), AS PART OF THE PRESENCE OF SHANGHAI REPRESENTATIVES IN PORTUGAL ON THE OCCASION OF CHINESE FILM WEEK, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE IN LISBON FROM SEPTEMBER 18 TO 20.
The visit was part of the cooperative relationship between the Shanghai International Film Festival and Fantasporto and the ongoing contact between the two festivals within their activities.
The delegation included representatives from official institutions and organisations linked to Shanghai's film and media sector, namely the Shanghai Municipal Film Administration, the Shanghai Media Group and the Shanghai International Film & TV Events Center, an entity linked to the organisation of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Among those present were the Director General of the Shanghai Municipal Film Administration, the Director of the International Cooperation Division of the same institution, the Director of the Research & Strategic Division of the Shanghai Media Group, and the Managing Director of the Shanghai International Film & TV Events Center.
Founded in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival is one of Asia's leading film festivals and belongs to the network of festivals accredited by FIAPF. Its activity includes a significant dimension of exchange between festivals and film institutions, namely through the circulation of films, contact between professionals and the development of cooperation initiatives.
The relationship between the two festivals has developed through the exchange of films, professionals and experiences, contributing to closer ties between their respective film contexts.
The meeting also included, at the festival's invitation, representatives of Filmaporto — Porto Film Commission and of the Direção de Cinema e Imagem em Movimento of Ágora – Culture and Sport of Porto, a municipal company of Porto City Council, as well as members of Cinema Novo, CRL. The participation of these entities followed the interest expressed by the Shanghai International Film Festival in learning about Porto's film ecosystem, allowing the delegation to make direct contact with some of the structures active within it.
During the meeting, the participants discussed different aspects of the current film industry and possibilities for future cooperation between the institutions.
The visit takes place on the occasion of Chinese Film Week in Portugal, which will take place in Lisbon from September 18 to 20, presenting a selection of contemporary Chinese cinema with screenings at Cinema Ideal and Cinema Fernando Lopes.
The meeting provided an opportunity to deepen contact between the two festivals, as well as with Shanghai's film institutions, within the framework of the festival's activities.
The delegation from the Shanghai International Film Festival was received at the festival's headquarters in Porto on September 17.
