We started this film festival with nothing- and were honestly proud with what we created. Last year at this time, two filmmakers threatened to sue us if we didn't screen their film. In this day and age, all people have to do is threaten to sue, and they are likely to get whatever they want. We think that's wrong.
The filmmakers came to our home on a Saturday night, and we were advised to file a Civil Harassment Restraining Order. We did, and the Judge (Mary Thornton House) decreed that we must give the filmmaker's attorney nearly $8000 for 17 hours of work. Now, the filmmakers' attorney has put a levy on our Festival bank account, we assume in an attempt to destroy the festival. Little does he know of the support that we have in this community... In our community of Pasadena, our community of filmmakers, and our community of Entertainment… Please don't let them get away with this. We, as a community, deserve so much more. Please don't allow this to set a precedent. If this bullying happened to us, it could happen to you. If everyone gives just $10, we can show lawyers and bullies that they cannot, and will not, be able to push us around. To all of those who have already contributed, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We only have 20 more days, less than three weeks, but we have faith that we will come together to fight injustice.
