With the recent Refugee Crisis sweeping the world, several questions have been raised. What is the purpose of taking refugees? How will countries provide for them? Why should we care about situations that are thousands of miles away? These are the questions addressed in Vanessa Redgrave’s Sea Sorrow. Redgrave made an appearance at her showing with her son and Lord Alfred Dubs. Redgrave and Dubs prefaced the film screening by stating that Europe is in trouble, “if one life is saved ...

Luna is a young woman who lives under the suggestion of dreams related to the disappearance of her father who was diagnosed as schizophrenic. After 10 years of his disappearance, his problems are accentuated and due to the insistence of Alba, her mother, agrees to undergo a therapy with Gael, a psychiatrist who was friend of his father with whom he shared a sailboat.
Gael has returned to Ibiza to try to start a relationship with Alba and recover the "Vagamar".
The dreams, sensations, allucinations and memories of Luna, embodied in a dress and a seashell, dismantle Gael's tactics and confront Alba's wishes.
Through Luna, R.E.M. leads us on a dream path where we discover some of the dreams most appealed by our culture and discover the problem between our conscious and unconscious.
Corto & Fieno – Rural Film Festival underlines the importance of cinematic representations of rural life in contemporary cinema. The 8th edition of the Festival intends to go on working on these subjects through films dealing with the relationship between man and land. The idea is to draw attention to rural culture, both in Italy and in other parts of the world. “Frutteto” (Orchard) is the short films contest through which the Festival aims to give space to film projects with a focus on the rural world.
The subject of the film must follow the general theme of the Festival regarding the life and work of the land, the relationship between nature and man from a rural point of view. All genres welcome.
The Festival will be held in Ameno, Omegna and Miasino, Lake Orta (Italy), on 15th, 16th and 17th September 2017, according to a schedule that will be announced a few weeks before the start of the event.
All submitted works must be a maximum length of 30 minutes. Videos both edited and unedited will be accepted, provided that they were completed after 1st January 2015.
For all info please go to the Festival's official website www.cortoefieno.it

In the "demi-monde" of night fishing, anglers on a French beach cast their lines. The camera follows their night-long toiling in obscurity, the contrast provided by the limited light sources resembling a scene from a baroque painting. Thus, a relatively ordinary activity takes on an otherworldly aspect, becoming an allegory for contemporary existence as well as for artistic production itself. For me, the situation evokes Miltonian-style scenarios of humans and rebel angels cast out of paradise and the film plays on Biblical fishing-related allusions (several of the apostles were said to be fisherman, and were described as ‘‘Fishers of men’’ and Christ was symbolized by a fish). Therefore, on a symbolic level, in the film the fishermen produce a ‘‘divine’’ signifier (i.e. the fish) which is subsequently disposed of, presumably leaving them to cast around for alternative significations.
Director: Janno Jürgens.
A lonely boat wanders around aimlessly in the fog, which has unexpectedly rolled up. The engine has stopped working and the visibility is as clear as the relationship between the father and son, who sit in the boat. What happens when these two are faced with an inexplicable threat?
For those people who want to be part of the unique experience of giving back the cinema to the people and join our activities in this charming and beautiful town, we have created many ways to support the festival.

Shot on an island in Adriatic, this film documents two days in life of an old man who spends his days fishing. Through the story about the old man, this documentary contemplates the transience of human life, the permanence of the nature, and the relationship between the man and the sea.

Within the Water Lies Death...and Life
We are all made of water, it brings us life. It can also bring death. Every so often, someone dies in the ocean, rivers, lakes…and sometimes, they return. They appear to those who knew them, only for a short time, then disappear again. They do not speak, they observe. No one knows why they return, whether it is to feel, to see, to experience, to live again, or whether they just became a part of the greater living entity, the water itself. All we know is that these events have been occurring for a long time.
A treat for the senses; this sweet bossa nova drips with romance, and seduces me into dreams of flying to the film festival in Tahiti! Deep throated Brazilian diva Angela Ro Ro sings with a lusty yearning for the cinema, 'the Princess and the Sea'
I've fallen in love with the luscious melody and the portuguese lyrics- liberally something along the lines of;
"I lose my problems, I feel great - I'm from Ipanema beach - if I'm homesick, I go to the cinema, I go to see 'The Princess and The Sea'.. but if I find a new love, then the film has the flavour of wet kisses, in the darkness we can live a little time alone... I go with a passion... I lose my problems, I feel great... If I need to, every day of the week, I return to my love of the cinema"
