I have performed with this classic horror/fantasy film--the best version of the Golem legend ever made--in our 20 countries round the world since debuting my live score (in collaboration with composer Walter Horn) at the Museum of th Moving Image in Astoria NY in 1989. The film concerns the actual historical Rabbi Jehudah Loew, who Jewish legend has it fashioned a man out of clay and brought him to life through cabbalistic magic to protect the Jewish Community of 16th century Prague from annihilation. A stunningly beautiful, little seen film!

Aside from the smorgasboard of films on tap at this year’s 10th Tribeca Film Festival, which runs through Sunday, the event has been filled with very interesting film panels and talks. One of the most interesting took place on Tuesday entitled Digital By Design. Paramount Digital Entertainment president Tom Lesinski led a panel of experts to discuss how social media can assist in both the marketing and the distribution of independent films.
Now that more movies are being distr...
These days people go and watch movies that have high quality visual effects and enjoy seeing large explosions, incredible creatures that look as of they could really exist, mind blowing action sequences, 3D images, and a variety of different effects that technology is allowing filmmakers and studios -who have the budget- to do.
However, with all the advances there is always the same complaint from movie goers and critics saying that what they are seeing on screen is not realistic. They a...
Cinefest 2011 Closing Night
I often find at the end of a film festival, some of the films I chose to
see will unintentionally deal with the same topic on some level: Brother & Sister, Terri and Vampire all dealt with care for an elderly parent, two of which had Alzheimer's. Womb explored an Oedipal complex and Brother & Sister performed a staged version of Oedipus. If I thought about it longer, I'm sure I'd find more cross references.
I
enjoyed my movie date...

How long has the festival been going, and why not make it an annual event?
I started TIFF in 2005. Every film festival has two challenges: who is going to watch your films (audience) and the huge expenses of having everything screened in 35mm. We connected TIFF with the World Youth Day - which runs every three years in a different big city in the world, which would give us the largest worldwide international young audience. During our screenings we are overrun by young people. With ...

What if you woke up with amnesia? What if you had no recollection of who you were in the past? What if you had to look deep within to find the answer to life's biggest question, "Who am I"? Using science, geometry, nature and spirituality, 3 Magic Words examines this question as it is explored further by metaphysical experts. These guests range from best-selling new-age authors to spiritual leaders, and even children. The guests include; Neale Donald Walsch, Ishmael Tetteh, Gudni Gudnason, Debbie Ford, Gary Renard, Nassim Haramein, Dr. Zhi Gang Sha and many more. 3 Magic Words reveals an ancient wisdom about the energetic connection that humans have with all matter on the Earth and in the entire universe. The scientific point of view assumes that this energy is simply just energy without any intelligence whatsoever. The spiritual point of view is that all energy is imprinted with consciousness. The movie takes you on a magical trip into consciousness at both the micro-cosmic and macro-cosmic levels as it taps you into a communion with the very fabric of the energy within all things. The movie shows you how to tap into your subconscious mind and use it to become an active co-creator in your life.

It is the near future and a shocking incident with a water catchment area has left thousands dead. The cause: a waterborne virus that could possibly spread across the globe in a matter of weeks. The government enlists the help of trained professionals to seek out and inspect all water sources across the nation for signs of contamination. The protagonist is simply one of the many agents working on the case. Just another day at work for him, however, turns into a decision that could change the course of history.

Monday at IFFBoston 2010 brings two vastly different screenings to Somerville’s small Cinema 5. 8: The Mormon Proposition lays out the political battles surrounding the recent Proposition 8 in California. The purpose of Prop 8 was to repeal the existing right of marriage for same-sex couples. In the days that followed the vote on the confusingly worded text - where supporters needed to vote “no” and opponents were to vote “yes” – it became known that the Prop 8 campaign had bee...
