Sebastian Kuonen

Sebastian Kuonen was born in the valley of Niedergesteln in Switzerland. Since his young

teenage years he has been experimenting with smaller film projects, he shot his first short films around the age of 11 as well as beginning his exploration of music. Sebastian graduated from Kollegium Spiritus Sanctus, Brig in 2009 and shortly after pursued filmmaking at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark. Here he teamed up with fellow filmmaker Jacob K. Glogowski, with whom he directed his graduation film, KNOCKTURNE. Since the EFC Sebastian has been living in Copenhagen focusing on different projects, smaller and larger, the latest being his new short film, Retrograde, which has been in its conception for nearly three years. In 2011 he became a member of the Berlinale Talent Campus alumni by enrolling with KNOCKTURNE and the script for Retrograde as part of his application. Beginning of 2013 Sebastian is temporarily moving back to Switzerland in order to begin his next project, a feature film unfolding its story in the midst of the Swiss Alps.

Jacob K. Glogowski

Born and raised by Polish parents in the northern part of Jutland, Denmark, Jacob K. Glogowski found his early fascination of filmmaking in action movies from the late 80’s and early 90’s. Starting out with realizing small and humorous videos in the later years of primary school, it was not before reaching the age of 19, where he made his first longer film in the city of Kolobrzeg, Poland. In 2009 he joined the new batch of students at The European Film College, where he together with friend and collaborator Sebastian Kuonen wrote and directed his final project, their graduation film KNOCKTURNE. Since then Jacob has stayed in Denmark, first studying at the University of Copenhagen for a couple of years, only to drop out and change his main focus on writing and directing, his latest work being Retrograde. His upcoming project offers a feature film, which takes place in the strange heights and depths of the Swiss Alps.

Thomas, the absolute main character, is entangled in cascades of emotions towards his love Selma, which is why he finds himself in the void of a city street. Darkness is cloaking his soul as he embarks on a journey towards answers, truth and love. His impulses are constantly in friction with his sense of indifference; people around him show signs of recognition, humiliation, empathy , violence, love, hate - all parts of Thomas' own emotions. One coincidence leads to the other and through a pattern of encounters with different people, Thomas is being led further into darkness. In the course of action he gets weaker, more fragile and in this shattered state of mind he discovers the impact of believing in ones inner values, it's the essential confrontation. In the end Thomas meets Selma in an open cityscape.
