Former assistant to Director Tommy Schlamme - West Wing, Life on Mars and Studio 60, grew up in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Realizing her love of story telling at a young age, Alexis hosted and co-wrote the GIRL’S LIFE RADIO SHOW for a local station in Baltimore, MD at the age of 15. The following year, while studying in Antigua, Alexis volunteered at San Pedro’s Hospital working with children with Spina Bifida. It was there that Alexis began to see the needs to connect her passion for story telling with the philanthropic concerns of the world.

Alexis graduated from Syracuse University in 2007 and was part of the Inaugural Class of Aaron Sorkin Week, a highly coveted program designed by the university, of intense study and practicum with some of Hollywood’s leading entertainment professionals. Since completion of the program, Alexis has worked with Nathan Barr of HBO’s True Blood, Dave Frederick, Director of Photography 2nd Unit and main Camera Operator for FX’s Sons of Anarchy, and two-time Emmy award winning Director of Photography, Bob Primes.

Alexis has recently been commissioned by Elle Magazine's UK TV for their Behind the Scenes Shoot with Pamela Anderson.

Alexis' sister-in-law Leslie Ostrander, former Ms. Wheelchair Georgia, a C7 incomplete quadriplegic from the age of 4, is the inspiration for this documentary, Defining Beauty: Ms. Wheelchair America. It is Alexis’s vision to bring to light a story that has never been told, allowing these women to shine and inspire us all.

Film synopsis:
DEFINING BEAUTY: MS. WHEELCHAIR AMERICA is an inspiring feature length documentary narrated by Katey Sagal, which follows the vibrant lives of five women on their journey to the 2010 Ms. Wheelchair America pageant. For 37 years, Ms. Wheelchair America has showcased the astounding accomplishments of hundreds of women, yet it has gone largely unnoticed by the general public—until now. Life in a wheelchair has often been defined as one of limitation, loneliness and unfulfilled dreams; however, the women showcased in this film demonstrate that their chairs do not confine nor define them. These remarkable contestants and the reigning Ms. Wheelchair America give us a unique glimpse into their lives as we follow them to Nationals in South Dakota as they compete for the crown. As in a traditional beauty pageant, Ms. Wheelchair America strives to show the inherent beauty in women while also competing on the pillars of ‘advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished, articulate spokesperson for individuals with disabilities.’ These women (who are mothers, students, athletes, and social activists) challenge themselves daily to live life beyond their limitations and in turn demonstrate to the world that true beauty is encompassed in a desire to succeed, a dedication to serve others, and the will to live life on your own terms.
