Meet the Competition Juries : Visions du Réel 56th edition

Discover the 2025 Juries! Once again, Visions du Réel’s esteemed juries – made up of leading figures from the world of cinema – will come together to watch, discuss, and select this year’s standout films after a week of screenings. Prizes will be awarded to works whose originality and vision stand out the most. The Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, 11 April 2025, with the VdR–Industry Awards Ceremony happening on Tuesday, 9 April 2025.

International Feature Film Competition

 

Hama Haruka – Eliza Hittman – Athiná-Rachél Tsangári
 

The Jury for the International Feature Film Competition, comprising Japanese festival director Hama Haruka, American filmmaker Eliza Hittman, and Greek filmmaker Athiná-Rachél Tsangári, will award the competition prizes from a shortlist of 14 films, which include 13 world premieres and one international premiere.

The Jury will deliver the Grand Jury Prize presented by la Mobilière (CHF 20'000) and the Special Jury Award presented by the Région de Nyon (CHF 10'000).

 
Burning Lights Competition
 
Scott Cummings – Elene Naveriani – Thomas Hakim
 

Burning Lights is dedicated to the latest, most free and contemporary forms and perspectives in cinema. The 2025 Jury, which will select the winners among 15 world premieres, is composed of American filmmaker Scott Cummings, French producer Thomas Hakim, and Georgian-Swiss filmmaker Elene Naveriani.

The Jury will deliver the Jury Prize in the Burning Lights Competition presented by the Canton of Vaud (CHF 10'000) and the Special Jury Award presented by la Société des Hôteliers de la Côte (CHF 5'000).

 
National Competition
 
Elie Grappe – Elaheh Nobakht – Petar Mitric 
 

The National Competition is dedicated to films (co)produced in Switzerland. The Jury will select the winners among twelve world premieres. It will be composed of French-Swiss filmmaker and screenwriter Elie Grappe, Serbian-Czech film professor and international distributor Petar Mitric, and Iranian-Swiss producer Elaheh Nobakht.

The Jury will deliver the Jury Prize in the National Competition offered by SRG SSR (CHF 15'000) and the Special Jury Award in the National Competition offered by SSA/Suissimage (CHF 10'000).

 
International Medium Length &
Short Film Competition
 
Qila Gill – Jenna Hasse – Valentin Noujaïm

The International Short and Medium Length Film Competition celebrates the best of shorter formats in contemporary non-fiction filmmaking, in all their originality and eclecticism. The Jury will select the winners among 35 films, including 31 world premieres and four international premieres. It will be composed of British-German programmer Qila Gill, Portuguese-Swiss filmmaker and actress Jenna Hasse, and French-Lebanese filmmaker Valentin Noujaïm.

The Jury will deliver the Jury Prize for the Best Medium Length Film presented by the Clinique de Genolier (CHF 6'000) and the Jury Prize for the Best Short Film presented by Vector Gestion (CHF 5'000).

 
Youth Jury
 
Caroline Cariage – Gil Dalebroux – Lydia Noémie Kidane – Nina Messieux – Jule Theli

The Youth Jury, composed of Caroline Cariage, Gil Dalebroux, Lydia Noémie Kidane, Nina Messieux, and Jule Theli, will award the Special Youth Jury Award for a Medium Length Film presented by the École Moser (CHF 4'000) and the Special Youth Jury Award for the Best Short Film (CHF 2'000).

 
FIPRESCI
 
Sanjin Pejković – Anne-Sophie Scholl – Štěpánka Zapata

The FIPRESCI (International Critics' Award) Jury will awards a first or second feature film presented in the International Feature Film Competition or the Burning Lights Competition

 
ZONTA
 
Faye Corthésy – Noé Maggetti – Elisabeth Ruey-Ray

The ZONTA Creation Support Award rewards a female filmmaker whose film, selected in the Burning Lights or National Competition sections, reveals mastery and talent and calls for support for future creations, worth CHF 5'000.

 
Perception Change Award
 
Aziyade Poltier Mutal – François Vioud
 

The Perception Change Award, presented by the Director General of the Geneva UN with the support of the Diplomatic Club, awards a film that sheds light on the current issues that will define the world of tomorrow (CHF 5’000).

 
Interreligious Jury
 
Jean-Claude Boillat – Mohammad Rezaeian – Marc Weiler
 

The Interreligious Jury awards a prize to a work that highlights questions of meaning and human solidarity, worth CHF 5'000.
