rotterdamfilmsProducers Mildred van Leeuwaarden & Dirk Rijneke Rotterdam Films Rotterdam Films is an independent production company founded by Dirk Rijneke and Mildred van Leeuwaarden. It produces and co-produces documentaries and fiction films. Award winning Silent Ones by first time director Ricky Rijneke will be released in the Netherlands in 2014. Festivalhit Silent Ones nominated for the prestigious Tiger Competition for upcoming talent premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2013. Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden produced, initiated and conceived City Life, the monumental award winning episode film. A film consisting of twelve episodes, together forming a visual anthology of international short stories. Directors involved are among others Krzysztof Kieslowski, Béla Tarr, Alejandro Agresti, José Luis Guerin and Mrinal Sen. For this project they (co)produced with companies, broadcasters and funding bodies from all over the globe. City Life had its world premiere on the opening night of the Filmfest Rotterdam, it was the closing film of the Berlin Festivals´ Young Forum and won several awards. Award-winning thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam by Oskar Jonasson, a co-production with the Icelandic production company Blueeyes Productions and Bavaria Film International, was Iceland’s Oscar entry for best foreign film. ‘Reykjavik-Rotterdam’s Hollywood remake, entitled Contraband directed by Baltasar Kormákur, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale was released in January 2012 by Universal Pictures. In the first weekend of its release it became USA boxoffice hit nr. 1 In the works is Hotel Europe second arthouse feature film by Ricky Rijneke and Hier by Balint Kenyeres.
The Hunter's Son by Ricky Rijneke selected for the Venice Gap-Financing Market 2019The Hunter’s Son, 2nd feature project by Dutch film maker and script writer Ricky Rijneke has been selected for the sixth edition of the Venice Gap-Financing Market (August 30 – September 1), which takes place during the Venice Film Festival 2019. The Venice Gap-Financing Market will present 23 narrative features projects from around the world in their final stages of development and funding. The Hunter’s Son is an international coproduction supported by film funds from different countries: the Netherlands Film Fund, the Icelandic Film Center, the Polish Film Institute and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund. The film will be produced by Rotterdam Films (NL) in cooperation with Balapolis (PL), Vintage Pictures (IC) Director Ricky Rijneke was invited for three international Talent Labs: the artistic development program of the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF), the Torino FilmLab and the Sam Spiegel international Film Lab in order to develop the project. Ricky Rijneke gained international acclaim with her first short Wing, the fish that talked back (Locarno Competition, Leopards of the Future) and her award winning feature debut Silent Ones, for which she brought together a choice selection of prize-winning European talent. This film premiered in Tiger Competition of the IFFR. It won eleven awards out of fifteen nominations in New York, Toronto, Berlin, Los Angeles and other cities.
