2019 Tribeca Film Festival Kicks Off Tomorrow

The Tribeca Film Festival will kicks off April 24 with the world premiere of HBO documentary “The Apollo” at the iconic Harlem venue. The documentary by director Roger Ross Williams follows the history of the Apollo, and includes new interviews with Patti LaBelle, Pharrell Williams, Smokey Robinson and Jamie Foxx. It also tracks a new production of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ “Between the World and Me” as it comes to the stage. From the grand opening and closing celebrations at the Beacon Theatre to the iconic anniversary screenings for The Simpsons, Say Anything, In Living Color, Reality Bites, and Apocalypse now, and This Is Spinal Tap…Tribeca Film has all the bases covered. This year, the Tribeca Talks: Director Series features an epic conversation between two industry legends, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro. Scorsese and DeNiro are responsible for some of the industry’s most successful films. The pair have been filmmaking partners for quite some time and they are going to chop it up on the Beacon stage. We will also hear from Guillermo Del Toro, David O. Russell, and Jennifer Lawrence. The Tribeca Talks Storytellers Series always yields some interesting conversation. This year, Tribeca sets up conversations with Questlove, Sarah Silverman, Rashida Jones, Michael J. Fox and Jaron Lanier take the stage to talk about their talents and journey through the industry. Queen Latifah also takes the Tribeca Talks to the next level with her presentation of the Queen Collective Shorts, a series of short visuals sponsored by P&G. She sits down with Dee Rees to talk about her latest project, the motivation behind it and why it’s important to present at the festival. The Tribeca Film Festival—launched after 9/11 to promote the cultural and economic revival of Lower Manhattan—provides a platform for innovative filmmakers to present their latest work alongside some major movie premieres too. There are also sections of the festival devoted to TV and online programming and experiential works, including virtual reality and multimedia projects.
