The eDIT | VES 2004 Program.animation & FX

The Art and Science of Filmmaking:
The eDIT | VES 2004 Program.
With the best from the cinema, television, animation and advertising, the Frankfurt festival provides a first-class overview of the current state of the moving image.
eDIT | VES 2004 - The European Festival for Production and Visual Effects means three days of state-of-the-art film production in all media. Some of the leading contemporary film professionals will show their recent work in forty presentations, workshops and panels from 26 to 28 Septemeber in the CineStar Metropolis Frankfurt.
From big feature film productions through trend-setting commercials and music videos to the most successful designs for TV and the latest developments in digital cameras and animation, eDIT | VES covers the whole range of moving image production and distribution in the digital age. With its comprehensive program, this international congress has established itself as the most important platform for digital film production for the cinema, TV and advertising in Europe (Horizont).
As in previous years, the most innovative recent feature films will be introduced on each of the three days by their directors, producers and VFX designers. Alongside these presentations the program has a changing daily focus: Sunday is dedicated to commercials and music videos, Monday to animation
and camera, and Tuesday is television day. For ease of orientation the festival program is divided into six sections: politics & business, film & storytelling, tv & broadcasting, creation & art, advertising & trend, production & technology.

The Program Highlights
Aside from the creative aspects of the production and distribution of moving images in the digital age, eDIT | VES is also concerned with the industry’s economic and political aspects: politics & business.
The political panel of eDIT | VES 2004 is: DVB – T Digital Television for Everyone?
In autumn the state of Hesse intends to close down analogue TV via terrestrial transmission. The new standard, Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial, is transmitted terrestrially and picked up by additional receivers. It can be expected that outside the large urban conglomerations the investment costs for
the new facilities will not be met. Will half of Hesse be looking down the tube? The panel discussion will include Dr. Helmut Reitze, director of Hessischer Rundfunk, Wolfgang Thaenert, director of the Conference of Regional Media Institions, Stefan Grüttner, director of the Hessian state chancellery,
and others.
film & storytelling is the heart of eDIT | VES, in which directors, VFX supervisors, camerapeople and animators present their current films. Hollywood and art-house use the same tricks and are confronted by the same challenge: how to create the perfect illusion? Some highlights:

Blueberry
Film adaptation of the legendary Moebius comic, with a large number of lavish visual effects that make the hallucinations and vision of the protagonists visible. Director Jan Kounen explains how he wins the viewer over to this redefinition of the western.
