Ronda International Festival, Political Cinema for the Twenty-First Century, was conceived in order to give a twist to cinema and politics, and to be an event aimed primarily at a young public, who are more adept at handling the new forms, codes and references used to decribe the real changes in the language and obligations of the citizens of this century.
In this new festival our first major task is to encourage a lively three-way dialogue between the filmmakers, who will attend with their films, politicians open to debate and a public that will be mostly made up of film and high school university students invited to the festival.

Simone Bitton
Simone Bitton , daughter of a Jewish jeweler, born in Morocco in 1955 has Franco-Israeli nationality and hopes to one day obtain the Moroccan. Graduate of the French film school IDHEC, she has made 15 documentaries which reflect her commitment to achieving a better understanding of the history and cultures of North Africa and the Middle East (especially Palestine, histoire d’une terre, 1997, L’Attentat, 1998, Ben Barka, l’équation marocaine, 2001 y Citizen Bishara, 2001). Wall is her first feature film made for the cinema.

Román Chalbaud
Román Chalbaud was born in Merida, State of Merida, Venezuela in 1931. He has developed an extensive body of work in film and theatre – closely linked –not forgetting the years dedicated to television, as well as his contribution to the founding of unions, associations and groups for both film and theatre. In 2009 he released his last film “Zamora, land and free men” produced for the Villa del Cine and written by Luis Britto García. At the end of 2010 he will release his new film “Days of Power” written with José Ignacio Cabrujas and produced by Villa del Cine
Ignacio Herrera
Edouard Waintrop
Edouard Waintrop was born on 3rd June 1952 in Paris. The son of film fans, he soon preferred to escape to the cinema than attend maths classes. When he began to be active in University he found the way to run a film club. Later he took over the film programming of a youth and cultural centre on the outskirts of Paris. All of this before he joined the daily Liberation where he remained film critic for 26 years. From August 2007 he has run the Friburg Film Festival in Switzerland and in April will become responsible for the municipal cinemas of Geneva.

Awards

The Golden Goyesca
Prize for the best feature length film presented in the Official Section of the competition, judged by an international jury made up of personalities from the worlds of cinema and politics, the Golden Goyesca comes with a financial award of €50,000, €10,000 for the director and €40,000 for the distributor in Spain of the winning film.
Goyesca of Honour
In its first edition, the Festival wanted to pay tribute with its Goyesca of Honour to the British director Ken Loach, emblematic figure in the world of cinema, a committed director who, with his extraordinary filmography has given us films spanning more than four decades of artistic endeavour, which appeal to viewers of all ages.
Public Goyesca
Judged as part of the viewers’ official Section, the Public Goyesca comes with a prize of €10,000 for the director of the winning film.
CinéCinéma – Open Window Prize
The French television channel CinéCinéma, with a long history of defending distribution of independent cinema to a wide public, will award the CinéCinéma Prize in the Open Window Section, which will pledge to purchase the winning film for the sum of €15,000 representing screening rights, and also its distribution on the CinéCinéma channel.
Egeda and Filmotech Prize – Life is Short
The Egeda-Filmotech Prize, which comes with €3,000 will be awarded in the Life is Short programme to the producer of the winning Spanish short film, chosen by the public via online voting at Filmotech.com.

Goyesca of Honour
In its first edition, the Festival wanted to pay tribute with its Goyesca of Honour to the British director Ken Loach, emblematic figure in the world of cinema, a committed director who, with his extraordinary filmography has given us films spanning more than four decades of artistic endeavour, which appeal to viewers of all ages.
As Ken Loach will receive his award and because of the Spanish release of “Route Irish”, an approche to his work will take place where his screenwriter Paul Laverty, will have an open dialogue with the British filmmaker and a review of some of his films such as:
