Established in 1983, The Los Angeles Asian PacificFilm Festival is Southern California's premier showcase for film andvideoworks by Asian Pacific American and Asian international cinema artists. Set to present its 32nd edition in 2016, the Festival is presented by Visual Communications, the nation’s premier Asian Pacific American media arts organization. The Festival encompasses screenings, panels, workshops, and artists' awards.

Starting as a weekend-long series showcasing 20 productions, the FilmFestival has grown into a week-long festival encompassing approximately 150 films and videos by Asian and Asian diasporic makers.The Festival's highlights include a gala Opening and Closing Night Celebration, a Festival Centerpiece presentation, a full complement offilmmaker seminars and workshops, and a variety of special events. Positioned as a lead-off event attraction of the annual activities insupport of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Festival attracts entertainment celebrities, civic and community leaders, movieworkers,and film enthusiasts in a week-long celebration of the ongoingaccomplishments of Asian Pacific cinema artists.

The Festival has brought established, emerging, and award-winningfilmmakers to the public's attention, including Gregg Araki, Lino Brocka, Chen Kaige, Christine Choy, Curtis Choy, Michael Kang, Ang Lee,Chris Chan Lee, Justin Lin, Miike Takashi, Greg Pak, Renee Tajima-Pena,Wayne Wang, John Woo, Jessica Yu, and many, many others.

The Festival recognizes filmmaking achievement through presentation of juried and ballot awards. These include:

GRAND JURY AWARDS:
For feature-length narrative and non-fiction film.

FESTIVAL GOLDEN REEL AWARD:
For Excellence in Short Film.

LINDA MABALOT NEW DIRECTORS/NEW VISIONS AWARD:
For innovative and creative use of cinematic language, for Short Film.

AUDIENCE AWARD:
Presented to the Favorite feature-length film, as chosen by audience ballot.
