Avant Première, Music + Media Market Berlin is an international trade fair for performing arts films. While premières are shown on film festivals, Avant Première presents performing arts films even earlier and hence offers a crucial information advantage to its participants. More than 550 international experts from major public and private broadcasting stations, distribution companies and production firms gather to get exclusive previews. The Avant Première Screenings provide a comprehensive synopsis of 530 music and dance films, documentaries, portraits, concerts and live recordings - ranging from classical music to contemporary and pop.

Avant Premiere is organized by the IMZ, International Music + Media Centre. It was founded under the aegis of UNESCO in 1961 to preserve the performing arts as a cultural asset. As global business network for 150 member companies it connects the creators of the performing arts – the world’s renowned stages, dance companies, opera and concert houses – with the audiovisual branches – film and TV production, distribution, public and private broadcasting.

This year's Special Focus “Meet the North” invites Scandinavian, Baltic and Icelandic companies in the field of audiovisual media and performing arts to present themselves to international industry representatives.
