Where Are They Now: NYC Independent Film Festival Highlights

user
The NYC Independent Film Festival has screened a slew of films that have gone on to be acquired, distributed, and nominated across a host of reputable platforms.   When the Ocean Met the Sky screened in 2015 was acquired by The Orchard for distribution. Three of our 2016 submissions also went on to do great things. A Beautiful Now was released on Netflix, A Nearly Perfect Blue Sky was screened at Sundance in 2017 during their "Midnight Short Films" category, and Mile End w...

My Beautiful Art Career

I don't think I could ever be successful like any of the artists in The Field's study "To Fail and Fail Big: A Study of Mid-Career Artists, Success and Failure."   Independence, self propulsion and seriously FAILING often are all integral to my process.  Putting a lot of time into something that doesn't work, figuring it out, abandoning it and starting something else that does work are very important to me. When other people are controlling my work...

Him Himself

Director: Pierre Dawalibi.
A conflict as old as Adam; it is the cause of every war, every greed and every agony; it is the dualism between you and your own self, between your desires and your fears, what you want and what you must. This movie is a reflection for every spectator to identify with, to observe what he/she is really doing to him/herself.

London Korean Film Festival Opening Gala A Great Success!

#
The Opening Gala of the fifth London Korean Film Festival has been declared a resounding success with many celebrities, filmmakers and diplomats attending. The Man From Nowhere directed by Lee Jeong-beom closed with a standing ovation from the likes of Jonathan Ross, Simon Field (producer of Uncle Boonmee), Tony Rayns (film critic), the ambassador of South Korea and film fans alike. The proceedings kicked off in classic film premier style with The Man From Nowhere receiving the first ever...

The Way

Director: Barry Shay.
Ramon Sanchez grows up in a poor section of LA. Due to circumstances regarding his mother and family (including his mother's abusive live-in boyfriend) Ramon decides to join a local gang to make extra money to help his mother out. When things go bad Ramon winds up in prison for five years. When he finally gets out he meets a social worker who discovers in Ramon a unique talent and ability. This is the impetus to keep Ramon from going back to the gang life and changes his life for the better. And inadvertently the social worker is helped by Ramon to calm his memories from the past.

Success starts with an idea (or a script)

An idea without follow-through is a hallucination.  Congratulations Frank on not having a hallucination!!  The road isn't easy but so what!  It's that mountain that keeps most people from trying and that makes success all the more possible for those that do try.  We're going shopping for our red carpet clothes for each of the film festival premiers.  So Frank, what color dress would work best for MJ on the red carpet?? Success Story: FADE

#
Several films from our 2007 program (many of which premiered at ACE Fest) have gone on to achieve varying levels of success from international distribution deals to finishing funds and major studio options. Today, we'd like to highlight Anthony Stagliano's FADE. The film is a story of sleeplessness, told through a nightmare. After its world premiere at ACE Fest, FADE screened at Illinois International Film Festival and NewFilmmakers at Anthology in New York City. The film has also been picked up...
