OTHER WORLDS AUSTIN announces Closing Night Film, Full Line-Up
The future lies just outside our front door at the inaugural Other Worlds Austin, Austin’s first festival dedicated to science fiction filmmaking. Less than six months after its founding, Other Worlds Austin proudly announces its line-up for the December 4-6th festival, including the World Premiere of thriller APT 3D, and the US Premiere of The Reconstruction of William Zero starring Amy Seimetz. Other Worlds Austin, Austin’s first and only festival dedicated to SciFi filmmaking, is proud to announce the Centerpiece Film for the festival which makes its debut December 4-6, 2014. Time Lapse, directed by Bradley King and written by King and BP Cooper, follows three roommates who discover a machine in a neighboring apartment that shoots out a Polaroid image from 24 hours into the future. Exploiting this information for their personal gain, the friends find themselves caught in...
Science fiction comes in all shapes and sizes—horror, drama, comedy, shorts, and full-length films. Other World Austin will bring the best of all that is SciFi to Austin. The three-day festival will feature films from all over the world, and all films will be eligible for a cash prize Audience Award.
“With a team of programmers who love SciFi, write SciFi, or make SciFi films, we are in this for one reason only—to put on a great festival,” said Bears Fonté, OWA Founder and Director of Programming.
“We are looking for great stories that aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of the audience, thrilling them both visually and intellectually,” continued Fonté.
As director of programming for Austin Film Festival for the last two years, Fonté saw many SciFi films that were submitted, but could not be included in the final selection. Also, Fonté loves the programming at Fantastic Fest, but by representing so many genres, he knows they can’t focus on science fiction. In addition, most of the films playing Fantastic Fest tend to be premieres or big-budget studio films. “There are a ton of SciFi films out there, maybe they’ve played another festival, maybe they are a bit more indie, but right now those films have nowhere to play in Austin,” Fonté believes. “I want to create an outlet for those films. Other Worlds Austin is firmly committed to supporting these filmmakers by giving them exhibition opportunities that might not otherwise be available.”
