Our Friend, Review: Cancer kills, friendship lives

Our Friend, Review: Cancer kills, friendship lives Several things are going right for this American true story. Slice of life characters, casting, a lead actress who looks really beautiful enough to justify the lead actor calling her the ‘most beautiful he has ever seen’, credible performances, locales shot from all angles, having its heart in the right place, generating heart-wrenching emotions, just that touch of humour, portraying an almost perfect marriage, as against divorced...

Sprint to the past

user
Director: Selkin Fedor.

Feature short film “Sprint to the past ”- is the debut author's project of Selkin Fedor. The famous Russian actors Alexandr Slastin, George Prosalovsky and masters of sport of academic rowing are involved into this film, as well as the director of photography Alexandr Mazur, who was working in camera crew in the last several films of Alexandr Sokurov.

The film tells the story of one of the most beautiful sports-rowing, about the fate of its athletes and their memories in our days. It is the story about the three friends, their sporting rivalry in the early 1980es and about the situation in the sport in our days.

The story in the film is narrated on behalf of the main character – Oleg. At the beginning of the film we see the life in rowing club and the academic rowing championship. We see the struggle between Sergey, Denis and Oleg in this competition, which was at the beginning of Oleg sports career. After he becomes a great sportsman, winner of Olympic games.

Oleg have traveled a lot and was working as a coach in different countries. In our days he is deciding to come back to his homeland. And what he is seeing is disgusting. The most popular and old rowing clubs are closed. He is meeting with his old friends. Sergey is a rich businessman, Denis is a common guard at the gate. After that Oleg is coming to his native rowing club and gets the proposal to become a coach.

The main idea of the film is not only to show the rowing but also to understand the feeling of the main hero, to show the relationship between the characters, to show the situation in sport in our times, that situation is typical not only in sport but in many other spheres of life in Russia. Very good words of Sergey ( one of the main characters ) - “ It worked out like that ! “ also reflects the situation in the life of our country in our times.

Wie das Binnenmeer

Director: Andreas Hyronimus.

Rather the career of the shy Simon (Jonas Minthe) was planned by his father: After finishing school he was due to study and afterwards take over the company of his dad. But the vest of a car salesman seems not to fit. Together with his best friend Paul (Julian Trostorf) Simon steals the favorite car of his father and the trip begins. On the way to the grandmother of Simon in poland, they have strange encounters and learn to see things in another way.

„Wie das Binnenmeer“ is a movie about friendship of two young men. Both grew up in a small german town near the Baltic Sea. They start a trip to another country and begin a new part of their life. The film tells the feeling of liberty while driving in a car and screaming outside the window. Looking on the sea for hours and getting the feeling to swim away. Going away without any plan and aim and just enjoying the moment. „Wie das Binnenmeer“ describes a typical story of a road-trip while using brilliant and atmospheric pictures. Because of the great soundtrack it is a pleasure to watch and hear at the same time.

During the process, he speaks to someone about this particular subject, justifies his behavior and talks about the multiple methods of brainwashing that are applied around the world. His assistant director, also his friend, Sally is kind of a shoulder to cry on about the rejection from the girl he loves; Elizabeth. But sometimes it is necessary to agree to pay the full price, like the corn grain which must die to bear fruit… It is what this film shows, film at the same time dramatic and full with hope, inspired from real facts.
