High Jack, Review: Hitting a new low
Several theories come up when you try and analyse what went wrong with a potentially high scoring black comedy. Firstly, it seems to be incomplete, with large chunks either not written at all or left out on the editing table. The second possibility is that the censor board did not take too kindly to a stoner subject and chopped out major scenes. It is also possible that the production worked with a skeletal script and tried to improvise as they went along,...
Gringo, Review: Enough of Judas! What about Peter?
“Which is the best Beatles album?” asks the man with the gun. If your answer is ‘Sergeant Pepper and the Lonely Hearts’ Club’, you die. If you do not like the Beatles or have outgrown them, he will still kill you. Your only hope is...‘Let It Be’! Get it right and he might either let you off, or just settle for chopping your finger off.
That is Gringo, a slightly confused and wayward take on an Americ...

Dr. Ruprecht Rummel recently retired from a career as an Urologist. Spending most of his time at home now and looking forward to peace and quality time in his adopted home of Los Angeles, he gets terribly annoyed by the illegal use of leaf blowers. Despite having a Leaf Blower Hotline, the Department of Public Works does not enforce the law and regulations to battle these illegal dust blowers. Ruprecht, a proud L.A. resident, is determined to find some peace and takes the law in his own hands. In a much needed romantic twist, even a maverick like Ruprecht gets what he deserves.
"History repeats itself, "the first as tragedy, then as farce." Finnish director Arto Halonen apparently drew on Marx's famed maxim when he made his 2012 documentary about doping in cross-country skiing, When Heroes Lie, and followed it up with this year's black comedy on the same topic, A Patriotic Man (Isänmaallinen mies). How fitting that these two films also explore individuals as vehicles of collectives -- and how this ideal can zigzag off-piste.

In the private world of a woman, love, heart, and touch-sensation are considered in the first place where for a man, body, lust, power and sex are priority. But what in a reversed case...? It’s called ‘Triya Charitra’ the character of woman! They say when God could not understand, what to say about a man?
Triya (the woman) is Chhaya (a shadow). Triya is Maya (an illusion). Who could hold shadow (Chhaya) and who can acquire an illusion (Maya) in his acquisition? If ‘Chhaya’ is a con then Maya too is a siren. 'Balakka’ - Loved Woman is all about Triya’s (woman’s) hocus-pocus nature. Balakka in Sanskrit is used for erotic woman. Ironically, 'Balakka' is the man’s ‘Kamini’ (the desired woman)! And he is very possessive about her. But who can confine love and mind?
'Balakka - Loved Women' combines the two ends of feelings of love and authority together. It’s the comic story on the classic theme. The film portrays the colours of both the phenomena of Chhaya (Shadow) and Maya (Illusion) in women.
A rickshaw driver Popo loves his wife Chhaya unconditionally. Chhaya is the whole world for him. One day when he finds her in the arms of someone else, his world gets shattered. On the other hand is an attorney, Premchand Ajabia. He had a crush on Maya in his college days and still lives in those illusionary memories of Maya, though Maya's settled with a rich fellow. But after years when Premchand gets a letter from her that creates a flutter in his life.
One city, two men and two ‘Apsaras’ (fairies) of their dreams.... Life twists and turns this side and that side. Not a breath of relief. Never ending feelings of restlessness. Pity on circumstances or laugh at the characters. Is love really a destiny? If you ask about it, the same answer will be repeated – Don’t ask. Fall in and feel it.

Five Traffic Wardens who are University Students and migrants are determined to prove to the public that there is more to them than their big bums and issuing parking tickets.
Being a Migrant worker and student with an accent in the UK is a big problem for Chris and his colleagues and they embark on a mission to uplift the image of traffic wardens and are determined to go extra miles. Albeit the daily difficulties inherent in being a traffic warden, Chris, Emeka, Sanjay, Everton, Heather, Colin and Lucy utilize all their skills to show the public that their temporary career path do not define who they are and that whenever people see them, they should not get scared that they will be fined for not packing properly rather; they should be ready to be entertained by their wits and dancing capabilities.
Their quest to help change the views of the public about traffic wardens and gain acceptability is dealt a heavy blow when Colin falls in love with a fellow student (Jade). In his “never say never” attitude, Colin decides to sing to her about his undying love in front of the whole class and in turn, makes himself and his colleagues a laughing stock.

The Frumans of Frumania live in a
perfect but shallow world, accessed through an apple on a market stall. In
amongst the rotten bunch is Appleby Cox's-Pippin. He is generally dismissed by
his fellow Frumans for his inability to be the same as them, and for his love
of all things creative. Soon Appleby feels the strain of being an outcast and life
at home is no better.
Eventually
rejected by his hypocritical father, Appleby is forced to start a journey in search
of 'being the same', eventually encountering the evil Agent Orange and learning
a harsh lesson in what really lies close to the Fruman heart - greed.
