International Film Festival “Steps” will take place between 20-24 November 2015 in Kharkiv. It is the eighth time when the audience will watch hundreds of films about human rights, animal protection and environmental challenges. This time the organizing committee has received more than 500 fictional films and documentaries. Year by year the festival attracts more and more directors from around the world. In 2013 about 50 member countries presented their works. In 2007 Human Rights Center “Steps” founded an eponymous festival. Since 1997 the organization initiates human rights actions, international conferences, exhibitions and awards, publishes books and creates films.
Aims of the International Film Festival “Steps”:
● to declare democratic rights, freedoms and humanistic values in society;
● to inform citizens of Ukraine and the world about the current issues;
● to popularize films about human rights;
● due to films encourage adopting foreign experience in solving global problems;
● to support local and foreign filmmakers.
The program of the Festival consists of competitive and non-competitive films (Panorama) and Retrospective. The Festival`s rules do not limit films in form, length or year of production.
Besides films there will be several locations where we will organize lectures and discussions with directors, representatives of human rights movements and public activists. In 2011 the UN has established the prize, since was supported by the “UN Volunteers” coordinator Giovanni Mozzarelli. In 2013 with the assistance of the UN Refugee Agency we opened a new exhibition “Ukraine – new home”.
The film festival becomes a platform for the dialogue between the government and the society.
