The 10th edition of annual and competitive Kathmandu International
Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) will be organised by Himal Association from 7 – 11
December 2012. By screening some of the most recent and exciting films about
mountain people, sports, environment, cultures and societies from various
corners of the world KIMFF seeks to celebrate the complexity and diversity of
mountain life.
We are, at the moment, soliciting
entries for the festival, and we hope you can participate by sending relevant
films you may have directed or produced in the last two years. We look forward
to your involvement in KIMFF 2012.

The 9th edition of Kathmandu
International Mountain Film Festival will be held from 8-12 December 2011 in
Kathmandu - the cultural and cosmopolitan capital of the Himalayan region. Since
its birth in 2000, KIMFF has evolved from a festival focusing initially on the
Himalaya to one encompassing a wide range of subjects and issues that explore
the diverse and complex ways in which human beings relate to mountains. KIMFF
seeks to showcase films that attract peer review and critiques that lead to
better documentation of mountain issues, particularly of highland regions of
the developing world.
About 50 films will be selected
for KIMFF 2011. Around 15-20 documentaries will be shortlisted to be viewed by an
international jury. Filmmakers can choose whether or not to submit their films
for competition. Accepted films not selected for competition will be screened
and be eligible for the Audience Award. Films made by Nepali filmmakers will have
the opportunity to participate in ‘Nepal Panorama’, a separate showcase of
Nepali entries. The objective of ‘Nepal Panoroma’ is to promote Nepali films in
all genres.
KIMFF 2011 coincides with Nepal
Tourism Year 2011. As part of this effort the festival will feature a special
selection of films that have been instrumental in putting Nepal on the world
tourism map. Films and activities that celebrate man's spirit for exploration and adventure, will also be part of this
edition of the festival.
In the presence of filmmakers,
film enthusiasts, critics, scholars, journalists, activists, and mountaineers,
the festival will include discussion forums, on-demand screenings, guest
lectures, exhibitions of books and photographs celebrating mountains and
workshops for aspiring filmmakers.

create their own short films on a pre-defined subject. Entries are accepted

expressing their ideas about the Balkans region through film making. Balkans
Beyond Borders encourages all young people to participate regardless their
social, cultural or religious background.

films can be documentaries or fiction, animations, recorded performances and
they must address the subject of the call, having no more than 30 minutes
length. The official language of the competition is English.

Balkans
beyond Borders (BBB), a non- profit organization, intends to promote
cooperation in the Balkans and encourage young artists to reflect on
current political and economical issues in their region.
BBB started as an Initiative in the framework of Southeast
Europe and the EU Leadership and Development Programme (LDP) and is now a
non-profit organization based in Athens with the purpose of
promote intercultural dialogue and an innovative way of learning through the
art of film-making and image. Moreover, BBB aims to support young artists from
Balkans and promote their work on both local and European level.
To this aim, the Balkans Beyond Borders Film Festival
will travel to a different Balkan city each year addressing a different
subject. The Festival will be reinforced by a number of supporting activities
throughout the year including, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, other cultural
events, as well as collaborations with local and international film festivals.

The International Film Festival “ Cyprus Film Days” is the official
international film festival of Cyprus. It is co-organised by the
Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the
Rialto Theatre.
The selection of films and programming of
screenings and parallel events programme is undertaken by a three-member
Artistic Committee, appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture
and the Rialto Theatre.
The International Film Festival “Cyprus Film Days”
is the official international film festival of Cyprus. It is
co-organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of
Cyprus and the Rialto Theatre.
The selection of films and programming of screenings and parallel
events programme is undertaken by a three-member Artistic Committee,
appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto
Theatre.
The Festival’s main objectives are to: contribute to the
development, promotion and mobility of the art of film making in Cyprus
and the wider area; screen the work of filmmakers from across the
world and to introduce their work to the Cyprus public;
to serve as a hub for films from the three neighbouring continents of Cyprus.
For 2011, the festival includes the sections below:
Glocal Images – International Competition Section:
Nine (9) feature-length films participate in this section. Films
originating from the neighbouring continents of Cyprus and other parts
of the world are chosen by the artistic committee, with an emphasis on
films, which promote cinema as an art form and a tool for intercultural
dialogue. Moreover, Glocal Images seeks to attract films highlighting
the diverse “colours” of local filmmaking in their country of origin and
drawing on themes and styles of contemporary international filmmaking.
Each film in this section is screened once in Limassol and once in
Nicosia.
Viewfinder – A Close-up of Contemporary International Cinema:
Nine (9) feature-length films will be selected to participate in this
section. This section hosts films which have been distinguished at major
international film festivals during the festival year and are selected
by the Artistic Committee.
The Festival also includes special screenings, thematic sections and tributes to the work of distinguished filmmakers from across the world
Parallel events with workshops and master classes.
The Festival is annual and takes place in Limassol (RIALTO Theatre)
and Nicosia (PANTHEON Art Cinema) simultaneously.
The tenth edition of
the festival will be held between 20 and 29 April 2012.
