A journey through the life of C. Saratchandran who travelled
constantly with the camera and cinemas. It is a journey through the vivid,
living memories of the protesters at Chaliyar, Plachimada, Muthanga and
Kathikudam; through the experiences of his friends and everyone who have
travelled with him or parallel to his path.
As someone who pioneered in media activism as part of the little
magazine movement during the Emergency, Sarat later on took up the very
political duty of...

During the meeting with the audience after the screening of his film Baggage
in the Cinema House, Danis Tanovic said that he’s actually quite a
joyful person and loves to laugh. But in our conversation he was quite
serious and said that certain things make him quite pessimistic. Going
back through his films, it is easy to spot the humor in all of them, but
it usually serves to lighten up a very dark situation, and to help you
through it. Perhaps, the more seriously you look towards...

shore, to a new film by Jackie Chan, and nearly non-stop fireworks every
few days, the city of Cannes is nothing less than spectacular in
ushering in 12 days of cinema magic at the 65th Cannes Film Festival.

The much maligned profile of Black British actresses has been well documented on this blog over the past 18 months and most recently in the London Evening Standard with the forthcoming feel-good flick ‘Fast Girls’ and the supposed significance of Leonora Crichlow playing the lead role in a British film. On such matters is primarily where Twitter comes into its own as a live news editor run by the public. It doesn’t take long before feedback is immediate and corrected (many thanks to @ECF...

Since I can remember, I have been in love with the magic of the big screen – the magic of movies. I love how characters come to life on the screen, how their hopes become my hopes, how their happily ever-ever-afters make me feel like such a thing might really be attainable. I love the high stakes, the excitement, the magic. That’s what brought me to Cannes. That is, I believe, what is at the root of why most of us are here working during the film festival.
Many filmmake...

Let’s start with that – what do actually Stephen Aposolof’s “dirty movies” mean?
Once
this type of movies that Apostolof has made, were called “dirty movies”
– that is to be distinguished from pornography, which precisely in
those years (early ‘70s) invaded the American cinema. Somehow all these
films enliven the atmosphere – such were the times: the 60s, experiments
with various drugs, rock music... This was a free time and this type of
erotic films, called s...
You chose to go with your team to some villages near Sofia. Did you find any interesting places?
We
toured several villages across the gorge of the Iskar River. I think
the most interesting place we found was an old, completely deserted
railway station. There were no people and the small building was full of
remnants of past life. Among the waste, bird nests and broken things, I
found a very old writing desk. It was astonishing that on the inner
side of one of its doors were post...
Let’s start with your character, Oded, who at one point began to question his everyday life...
One
of the things I love the most about cinema is that sometimes the most
mundane things, if you stare at them long enough, start to look unusual.
If we look deep enough at a regular chair, for example, at some point
it startsto seem like something completely unknown... If we start gazing
at things, in a moment we begin to ask questions: “What is a car?” – “A
big box with four...
