Vilnius International film festival pays tribute to great Lithuanian film makers

user
Vilnius International film festival pays tribute to great Lithuanian film makers, which are better recognized internationally than locally. Jonas Mekas was born in Lithuania, but immigrated to New York in 1949. That same year, he made his first films, using a 16mm Bolex camera. Jonas Mekas is a filmmaker, journalist, teacher, curator and author, and is considered one of the most important representatives of US avant-garde cinema. Special screenings of his new film "Slee...

Literati Film Festival

The Literati Film Festival is a collection of thought provoking works from around the world. It is an international showcase of film to evoke an emotional response and a perceptual alteration in the viewer. Accepting narrative, experimental, documentary and animation it is our hope they be shown together under the broad hood of cinema. It is our hope that you will behold something unfamiliar and strange, yet at the same time revel in its familiarity. We want to bring the viewer to a place outside their comfort zone, to a place where they normally are not allowed just as film does. It is a transitory experience. Voyeuristic, it is a window into the lives and minds of others. We want to show things that quicken the heart and mystify the senses. As Opera encompassed artistic union between different mediums, so to has film. It is the objective of the festival to celebrate the film in its totality. To also dissect it into its components and explore their beauty such as film score and concept art. Applicants are encouraged to submit any and all process materials and film scores to be reviewed as well. Art including but not limited to process, concept, props, installations, and costumes will be showcased in our grand opening and closing ceremonies. The first annual film festival will be held at the Anthology Film Archives. It is their mission of preservation and promotion of film as an art medium that we hope to ally ourselves with. Founded by Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, Jerome Hill, P. Adams Sitney and Peter Kubelka in 1969, it was created as a place where film as an art could be showcased.

The Public Screening of Private Movies

Friday, August 10-------For the fifth year, Anthology Film Archives invites amateurs and professionals alike to share their 8-millimeter, Super 8 or 16-millimeter home movies for its annual Home Movie Day. Decaying images from family vacations, bar mitzvah celebrations, long forgotten family members and other ephemera are the order of the day, with the prevailing ethos that one man's trash is another man's treasure. The only rule is that the home movies must be that, movies, not vide...

The Independent Film Show of experimental film

user
INDEPENDENT FILM SHOW 5th Edition16 - 17 - 18 - 19 november 2005 Palazzo delle Arti - PAN (via dei Mille, 60 - 80122 Napoli)The Independent Film Show is devoted to the exhibition of experimental film. In a way, it is not surprising that this film festival is organized by an art gallery, as experimental film has certainly as much to do, or far more to do, with the plastic arts than it does with cinema, as conceived in its most classic and commonly accepted sense. It is film considered as an art ...
