Sophia Coppola

Ladies

user
I've had a productive afternoon re my phd and catching up with film festival gossip :), as you are probably aware the London Film Festival has been running for these past two weeks (a friend of mines short; Scent, was in competition during the festival too) there hasn't been many headlines in the way of controversy or anything, however Clio Barnard won best British newcomer for her film 'The Arbor'... This is great news, but is it me or is anyone else starting to see a pattern o...

Nepotism Chocolates

user
I’ve been having loads of google news alerts flooding into my inbox over the past few days with regard to QT denying ‘nepotism’ charges (or in other words that he didn’t award the top prize to Sophia Coppola because they used to date). To be honest, this is all that is happening with this conspiracy; QT is denying it and no-one else involved with the jury or connected with the Venice Film Festival has commented on it. To be honest it s getting slightly boring now – it wi...

Fantasy Film Festival

user
I think my eyes have gone weird - as I have literally been sitting in front of my laptop all day. I have been tied to the chair as had some really busy Zombie Diaries 2 adminstration work to do today which is all very exciting but seriously my eyes have changed... Anyway, during my 10 min pause for lunch I spent it studying all of the news pages re film fest gossip. Unsurprisingly Sophia Coppola's new film has been received with mixed reviews but she is very love or hate. I'm hoping for ...

Chicks Making Flicks

user
By Rhinnon Hobbins For decades the film industry has suffered from a lack of female directors. But the tide looks to be finally turning with more and more chicks sitting in the director’s chair making some exceptional flicks. These filmmakers are determined not to let anything stand in their way of telling a story - even if that means working on storyboards whilst giving birth.ÉCU 2007 debut director Nicola Morris “I actually took my storyboard into the delivery room and worked on it as I w...

Malkovich, Asia Argento... lucky guests for next Thessalonik Fest

user
The actor John Malkovich will visit the Festival from the 17th to the 20th of November to receive an Honorary Golden Alexander for the body of his work, on the 18th of November at 21.00 in the Olympion theater. The nominee for two Academy Awards and star of such films as Dangerous Liaisons, The Sheltering Sky, The Glass Menagerie, Beyond the Clouds and In the Line of Fire, Malkovich was and remains a multi-faceted artist. The director of The Dancer Upstairs with Javier Bardem and the producer of...

Film In Focus: YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH

Sunday, October 21--------The excitement on the Red Carpet last evening was not for a big time movie star or even a local Italian celebrity, but for a film giant, with decidedly Italian roots. Francis Ford Coppola, the iconic director of such classics as THE GODFATHER trilogy, THE CONVERSATION and APOCALYPSE NOW, is being honored here with the greatest respect and awe. His newest film YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH had its World Premiere last evening at the Festival’s Sala Santa Cecilia, the largest of...

Cannes is over

user
After two crazy weeks, Cannes is now over. Most people are back home. A few are still there to finish editing their stories, videos, TV shows... I left Sunday to watch the award ceremony on TV. Awards, as always, were quite surprising. The Palme d'Or (see all videos) went to Ken Loach's the Wind that Shakes the Barley, not my own favorite. Surprisingly, no prize was awarded to Marie-Antoinette from Sophia Coppola nor for the Pan's Labyrinth from Guillermo Del Toro. See you soon... ...
