Ladies

I've had a productive afternoon re my phd and catching up with film festival gossip :), as you are probably aware the London Film Festival has been running for these past two weeks (a friend of mines short; Scent, was in competition during the festival too) there hasn't been many headlines in the way of controversy or anything, however Clio Barnard won best British newcomer for her film 'The Arbor'...

This is great news, but is it me or is anyone else starting to see a pattern occurring here in that women directors are really starting to get noticed in the film industry by winning big awards at film festivals? First there was Katheryn Bigelow winning an Oscar for 'The Hurt Locker' then Sophia Coppola at Venice for 'Somewhere' and now Clio Barnard. Is it only now that women are finally being awarded, and recognised, for all of their hardwork?

Gosh I sound like a mad post-feminist here but that's not my intention, really I'm just hoping that more and more females working in this industry will be able to be seen for who they are - strong women, sounds like a cliche but its true. When a potential client phoned me the other day he was surprised that I was a woman since he instantly presumed that I was a man since the word 'doctor' was attatched to my company name. 

I was, infact, advised to stress the fact on my company logo that I am indeed a woman because if not everyone would think I was male... this is an interesting and valid point, yet I do wonder how people would tend to percieve my company if my logo did not feature any feminine qualities...
