In 1990, six film enthusiasts came together to found a festival for avant-garde and underground film productions and thus establish an alternative to the dull conformity of the cinema scene in Wiesbaden, Germany of the time. Over the course of 28 years and now 31 editions (in the beginning there were two per year) exground filmfest has evolved into a film festival of international stature. Last year’s 14,000 attendees are a testament to the unwavering popularity of the festival. We are rightfully proud of the fact that we have achieved all of that as a festival organized by volunteers and would like to take the opportunity to thank all of those who have been a part of the team over these many years.
