The Çıldır Lake is located in a volcanic area 70 kilometers north of Kars, on an altitude of 1,959 meters. The lake is shaped like a triangle, with its longest side (15 km) in the northern part. It is set on an area of 120 square kilometers. Çıldır Lake formed when lavas closed the front of a crater, causing water to collect inside it.
