Three women set out on the road to rehab in Ann Hui's incisive look atHong Kong's drug problem. After elderly drug user Mrs Choi (Huang Man)checks herself into a treatment center, her hooked daughter Fong (CarolCheng) is aided by a social worker (Gigi Wong). Meanwhile, hostess SiuLai (Idy Chan) realises she too must go clean. The counselor agreeswhen it comes to the evils of narcotics, yet Hui's tale of people onsociety's fringe is never shrill, and its sympathetic portrayals of thethree women show dignity and steer clear of caricature.

The subject matter was considered so strongat the time that the initial broadcast was delayed.

As the boy locates his brother, who isalready in Hong Kong, moves from a safe house and takes up work, Huiand writers Shu Kei and Wong Chi carefully shed light on the hardshipsimmigrants face in Hong Kong. The new home, it turns out, is nopromised land for refugees but more a transit point on a journeyelsewhere, and a place where injustice and prejudice are common.
