Screenwriters Discuss Their New Film At Lincoln Center

[img_assist|nid=5177|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=101|height=150]Monday, June 11-------Acclaimed novelists and screenwriters Michael Cunningham and Susan Minot will appear at a special advanced screening of the film EVENING tomorrow evening at the Walter Reade Theater, the flagship of the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The writers will join Film Society of Lincoln Center Associate Director of Programming Kent Jones onstage for the special preview screening and to discuss their screenwriting partnership. EVENING, which is based on Minot’s bestselling novel, was adapted for the screen by both writers in a unique collaboration. The film explores the past and present of a mother as she retraces a life-changing memory of love, and conveys it to her daughters for the first time. Lajos Koltai directs the remarkable ensemble cast that includes Claire Danes, Toni Collette, Patrick Wilson, Hugh Dancy, Natasha Richardson, Mamie Gummer, Eileen Atkins, Glenn Close, and Academy Award® winners Vanessa Redgrave and Meryl Streep. EVENING opens theatrically on Friday, June 29th from distributor Focus Features.

Her novels include MONKEYS, FOLLY and EVENING INTO EVENING. She collaborated with celebrated director Bernardo Bertolucci on the screenplay for his 1996 film STEALING BEAUTY. Michael Cunningham studied at Stanford and the University of Iowa ’s prestigious writing program. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award for his 1998 novel THE HOURS, which was adapted by prize-winning playwright and screenwriter David Hare for the highly successful screen version in 2002. Cunningham did adapt his novel A HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD for a 2004 screen version, starring Robin Wright Penn and Colin Ferrell. His latest novel, SPECIMIN DAYS, has just been released in paperpack, and he selected the poems and wrote the introduction to a book of newly discovered Walt Whitman poems, entitled LAWS FOR CREATIONS.
