Memory seems to have been the “fil rouge” throughout the entire Day 6 of the #BiennaleCinema. In Maggie Gyllenhaal’s FLESH IMPACT, the short film creates a new memory of Marilyn Monroe, embodied by Ellen Burstyn – who yesterday also received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement! In Hirokazu Koreeda’s LOOK BACK, memory is already there, hidden in the title itself, while in Paolo Strippoli’s THE SPIRAL we learnt that things resurfacing from the past can hurt us… a lot. In Sabu’s ARRESTED MEMORY it has such an important place that it is written in the title! In Halkawt Mustafa’s NO PARADISE IF YOU ARE KILLED BY A WOMAN, memory is a door open to the traumas of the past, the horrors of the war. And yes, is it true that we learnt that memory can lead to wonderful paths as well as to disturbing scenarios, but we know you’re building new memories day after day here at Venezia83, and that they are all pleasant and cherishable!
