Thailand Pavilion Opening Ceremony

The Thailand Pavilion officially opened on May 13th at 4:30 pm for the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Located in Booth 112 at the International Village, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun and Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised led the opening ceremony. Also featured at the event was Thai K-pop singer Kanphimuk “BamBam” Bhuwakul, who appeared in Confessions of a Shaman, a Thai horror film, his appearance intended to highlight Thailand’s prominence in horror filmmaking. Thai food was also served at the event. 

During the ceremony, Suthumpun spoke of hopes for the Thai film industry at the Cannes Film Festival. “Thailand’s film and video industry is a high-potential creative industry capable of generating economic value, income and employment, while also benefiting related industries... Films are an important tool for promoting Thai identity, culture and image, as well as building international networks and expanding global markets.”
