As we move into the new year, we begin with our first Newsletter of 2026 announcing the dates of the ninth edition of the festival, which will take place from 20 to 26 April in Porto. As in previous years, this April we continue to celebrate the revolutions that have already taken place and all those that are yet to come!
Maintaining the same values since the first edition in 2018, we focus on promoting the work of women and non-binary people, thus promoting their equality and empowerment in the film world.
This event will be a place for film lovers to share, debate, and create. That's why competitive sessions, screenings, tributes, workshops, Q&A sessions, exhibitions, industry meetings, and social gatherings are some of the surprises we have in store.

On 20 December 2025, submissions for this new edition of Porto Femme closed. For two months, we received films from all over the world, from a total of 84 countries. In all, 966 submissions were made, which were distributed among the festival's different competitions.
We have been spending the last few months analysing the films we received, and we believe that selecting the final programme will be a difficult task, as we received high-quality films that address issues that are important today. Ultimately, these are works that stir up the necessary unease for changes that are so badly needed and that we want to see happen. And this is a pleasurable process of discovery that we have been undertaking every year.
We are delighted to receive all these films, which have been considered by the team, so that we can offer our audience a ninth edition of cinematographic works that carry within them diverse voices from around the world.

ENG| On 25 February, the 96th Femme Session at Maus Hábitos continues the retrospective of the 8th edition of Porto Femme – International Film Festival. This session highlights the power of the female gaze in the reconquest of space, territory, and identity, where we revisit one of the films from the International Competition.
From an ecofeminist perspective, this film takes us to the interior of an island where a group of women from different countries of the former Yugoslavia builds an alternative community. Known by the locals as the ‘Witches of Brač,’ these women reject private property and hierarchical structures, organising themselves through direct democracy. They share the land and seek to create a safe and self-sustaining space, creating a territory of care, resistance, and collective reinvention.
With free admission, we invite everyone to immerse themselves in a narrative where resistance and autonomy intersect, celebrating perseverance, sisterhood, and the search for identity, reminding us how fragile and, at the same time, vital the spaces we choose to inhabit can be ✨
