Festival Premiers Plans d'Angers

Devoting itself to the discovery of new talents in European Cinema and rediscovering the famous masterpieces of our film heritage, the Premiers Plans d’Angers Festival has become, since 1989, a cultural and artistic gathering, recognized by professionals, followed by a large audience and supported by many big names.

Since 1989, young filmmakers have come to Angers each year to present their project to a large audience. Directors Fatih Akin, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Arnaud Desplechin  and even Cristi Puiu and Matteo Garrone presented their first films at the Festival before they became big names in the industry.

Each year, the Official Selection presents 100 European first films split into six competitive sections in which the winners are awarded more than 200 000 euro of prizes by the official jury and the audience: European First Feature Films, French First Feature Films, European First Short Films, French First Short Films, European Student Films and European Animated Films. There are also four out of competition sections : Free Form, Next Shorts, Stereoscopic 3D and Beijing First FilmFestival.
