Auburn International Film Festival for Children and Young Adults

Auburn International Film and Video Festival for Children and Young
Adults was established in 1998 as a community cultural development
initiative. Since then, the festival and its philosophy have been
acknowledged internationally by children, youth and adults who are
interested in moving images as a medium for expressing social, cultural,
political, racial and economical concerns about the environments in
which they live. In the year 2011 the festival received more than 700
films from 57 countries and showcased nearly 100 works by youth, adults
and children as little as 6 years old.

As the festival rapidly grows, so do other activities alongside the
festival’s main program such as children video and animation workshops,
media literacy forums, international Curatorial and Exchange
programs.  Promotion and distribution of those works, which do not have
prior distribution support is the most significant component of the
festival.

15th Auburn International Film Festival for Children and Young Adults
will be held at Reading Cinemas in Auburn and The Armory Theatre during
September 17-21, 2012.  The festival will be hosted by various venues
around the city of Sydney and Regional NSW through its ‘Traveling Film
Festival’ program in 2012.

The festival accepts short and feature lengths films made by
children, young adults and adults whose works are for or about children
and youth.  The primary audience are students from primary and high
schools in the Western Sydney region and beyond.  Through ‘Exchange and
Curatorial’, ‘Special Screening’ and ‘Travelling Film’ Festival’, the festival content will reach the general public and communities locally and globally.
