International non-specialised competitive event founded in 1953. Official Section awards include the Golden Shell, the top prize, Silver Shell to best director, actress and actor, and Jury Award to best screenplay and cinematography.
Other prizes are Kutxa New Directors award to a film in the New Directors section, carrying a cash award of 50,000 €, the Horizontes award, to a film in the Horizontes Latinos Secttion, carrying a cash award of 35,000 € and the Irizar Basque Film Award to the best Basque film premiering at the Festival and presented in any section.
Besides that, the Industry Club hosts two inititatives aiming at fostering the exchange between European and Latin-American film industries: the Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum held for the first time in 2012 and Films in Progress, now on its 25th edition.
