9:30am One Step Forward, Two Steps Back?

With this panel of industry change-makers, we will take stock of meaningful progress on equal opportunities in film. The newly relaunched Framework of Action on Gender Equality in the Audiovisual sector in Europe reaffirms the commitment of broadcasters, producers and trade unions in the sector to driving progress, but is change happening on the ground? Is the culture really shifting? We ask our panellists to share what is actually making a difference to opportunities for women in the sector and what is still holding them back.

10.15am Vulnerability and Dignity: Talking About Intimacy Coordination

Sexual harassment, sexual and sexist violence, workplace safety and dignity: these issues leapt into focus in the film sector in the wake of #MeToo. Different support and health and safety provisions have been developed in response, with intimacy-coordination becoming one of the most talked-about. What is it and how does protect all film workers involved in scenes with nudity and simulated intimacy? We ask our panellists to share their views on an emerging profession and workplace practice.

This conference will be accompanied by simultaneous English/French interpretation.

Getting audiences into movie theatres is the biggest challenge facing the industry today, but what if the focus wasn’t just on marketing campaigns, but began from the earliest stages of production?

This panel will explore one of the most burning issues of the ever-changing audio-visual landscape taking a deep dive into audience development approaches that are critical for building sustainable distribution of European films. The panel will focus on the important role of producers in both understanding audience development and creating joint efforts across the value chain to attract bigger audiences. What is the role of the producer? What are the core objectives for audience development and are they linked to certain release windows or genres or to each film specifically?
