The conference will focus on the competitiveness of the European media and audiovisual industries, and the challenges and opportunities of European companies. While the recovery from the pandemic is ongoing, the sector is facing increased competition from global players in many segments, including in emerging production technologies. Speakers will share their diagnoses on the state of the sector and the attractiveness of European productions, and will discuss latest trends on consumption. They will reflect on how to adapt their business models and build on their assets today so as to better serve tomorrow’s audiences.
After an opening by European Commissioner Thierry Breton on the competitiveness of the industry, high-level European CEOs will share their views on how to prepare for the future of the sector and better position the European audiovisual industry in European and global markets.

Virtual production technology has brought about a significant change in how films, TV shows, and immersive experiences are created. It offers new creative opportunities and real-time visualization by seamlessly combining physical and digital elements. This technology has been recognized globally, but how can Europe emerge as a thriving hub for virtual production innovation in the global VP race?
The Cannes Next exclusive on the Plage de Palmes will bring together three European industry experts - including a screenwriter and director, a photorealistic and immersive experiences pioneer, and a founder of Europe's first decacorn (a company valued at more than €10 billion!), to explore the growth potential of virtual production and immersive sectors in Europe, particularly for independent producers and decision-makers.
The panel will focus on the benefits of virtual production and immersive technology for the independent industry, how the immersive and gaming industry is revolutionizing film and television, and how the European sector can leverage virtual production to its advantage. They will also shed light on the current state and prospects of virtual production in Europe, exploring opportunities, challenges, and potential collaborations that can further propel the continent's virtual production and immersive ecosystem.
