Social Impact & Vison Award Winners Announced
For the second year the Ojai Film Festival will honor films for the Social Impact and Vision Award, sponsored by Panavision. Begun in 2021 the “Diversity and Inclusion for Social Impact and Vision” program explores the breadth of “diversity.” At the same time it examines “intersectionality,” aspects of a person’s identity that may cause conflict yet create an opportunity for understanding marginalized communities. The 2022 Festival also offers two Diversity & Inclusion seminars on Sunday afternoon, November 6. The First Place Social Impact and Vision Award honoree receives a Panavision $60,00 rental package.

Torn between the innocence of childhood and a rebellious adolescence, twelve-year-old Beans comes of age during The Oka Crisis, which rocked Quebec for 78 tense days in 1990. Through the conflict, Beans matures into a tough Mohawk warrior who withstands the challenges of an indigenous woman in a country with a contentious history concerning native rights.

Indigenous teenagers from Mexico strive to change their destinies in the strawberry fields of Oxnard, California. During tumultuous high school years punctuated by racism and anti-immigrant policies, they capture their journeys on video as they navigate cultural identity, parental expectations, economic challenges, and the justice needs of their migrant farmworker community.
