Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg celebrates its 30th anniversary
Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (FABW), based in Ludwigsburg, Germany, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a series of events this summer. Inspired by the motto "30Something – die FABW feiert!” (30Something – FABW celebrates!"), various events will take place from July 12 to 16, 2021 for invited guests, both online and on-site during the ongoing Corona pandemic.
Among the series of events will be the 17th presentation of the international advertising film prize ceremony Porsche Awards and the premiere of the new FABW short story collection "Sommer" (supported by the Wuestenrot Stiftung). Further program highlights include contributions by Filmakademie’s Animationsinstitut and the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris (ALP) as well as the industry-pitching event SCREEN.TIME international and an alumni panel on "Equality and Diversity". The Association of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg e.V. are excited to present the 2021 Caligari Awards ceremony as part of the anniversary. On Friday, July 16, twelve outstanding student projects in development will receive the "Caligari" prizes.
During the ongoing Corona pandemic, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg will celebrate in accordance with local safety rules: For example, there will be a ceremony for invited guests, followed by a dinner, to bid farewell to some long-time companions, such as the head of the Film-Making 1 department, Prof. Jochen Kuhn. The traditional courtyard party "Ehrliche Wurst" for FABW staff, students and alumni will also take place under pandemic conditions, as will the closing of the Caligari Award ceremony in front of the cinema, with Caligari Band complementing the outdoor event.
The online program will include a discussion with Prof. Jochen Kuhn, alumni and former or current staff members, as well as a roundtable discussion with FABW students and alumni on the topic of "Life and Identity of Jewish People in Germany".

Founded in 1991, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg trains outstanding talent at the highest level in all areas of film and media. The studies focus on the development of an individual artistic handwriting and a personal attitude. During the 30-year history of Filmakademie, student projects have received national and international acclaim. Among the vast number of awards are the "Student Oscars" as the most important international award for young filmmakers. With 6 Student Oscars and 17 nominations, FABW ranks second among all film schools outside the USA. Other international accolades include the Annie Awards and VES Awards, the most prestigious awards in the fields of animation and visual effects. In addition, student projects have received other major awards such as a Golden Bear (Berlinale), a Golden Leopard (Int. Film Festival Locarno), a Grimme Award as well as several German Film, Television and Short Film Awards. At the First Steps Awards, the most important national competition for young filmmakers, FABW is by far the most successful film school.
