Berlinale News: Perspektive Deutsches Kino, Panorama, Generation, Forum Expanded kündigen erste Filme und Projekte an / Matteo Garrones Pinocchio erster Gast im neu konzipierten Berlinale Special Gala

Die Programmauswahl zur 70. Berlinale schreitet voran. Einige Sektionen können bereits erste Filme bestätigen.

Carlo Chatrian, der neue Künstlerische Leiter der Berlinale: „Wenn wir nun die ersten Filme der 70. Berlinale ankündigen, erscheint mir ein Hinweis wichtig: Das Programm ist mehr als die Summe der ausgewählten Filme. Es ist das Ergebnis eines gemeinschaftlichen Arbeitsprozesses, der vor allem ein Ziel verfolgt: Das Festival soll ein Bild entwickeln, das das Kino als narratives Medium zur Geltung bringt, das vom Menschen und seiner Welt erzählt.“

The programme selection for the 70th Berlinale is progressing. Some sections can already confirm the first films.

Carlo Chatrian, the new Artistic Director of the Berlinale: “Announcing the first films, it is important to note that the programme is more than just the sum of the selected films. It is the result of a collaborative working process and is intended to provide a picture that highlights cinema as a narrative form, which speaks of people and their world.”

Berlinale Special

Pinocchio als Berlinale Special Gala im Berlinale Palast

Die neue Festivalleitung, Geschäftsführerin Mariette Rissenbeek und Künstlerischer Leiter Carlo Chatrian, hat im Wettbewerb die Kategorie „außer Konkurrenz” abgeschafft. Filme, die bisher im Wettbewerb außer Konkurrenz liefen, werden künftig als Berlinale Special Gala präsentiert. Diese finden entweder im Berlinale Palast oder wie bisher im Friedrichstadt-Palast statt.

Erster prominenter Gast im Berlinale Special Gala wird Regisseur Matteo Garrone mit Pinocchio sein, der seine Festivalpremiere im Berlinale Palast feiern wird. Garrone gelingt es, mit seiner ganz eigenen Bilderwelt, die allseits bekannte Geschichte neu zu erzählen.

„Er hält sich treu an Carlo Collodis Vorlage und hat doch einen ganz persönlichen Pinocchio geschaffen, der viel heiterer ist als wir ihn von früher kennen“, kommentiert Carlo Chatrian.

Internationale Premiere

Pinocchio as Berlinale Special Gala at the Berlinale Palast

The new festival management, as represented by the Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek and the Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian, has taken out the category “out of competition” which ran in the section Competition. As a result, non-competing films will be presented as part of the Berlinale Special Gala in the future. These presentations will take place at the Berlinale Palast or, as in the past, at the Friedrichstadt-Palast.

The first prominent guest of the Berlinale Special Gala will be director Matteo Garrone with Pinocchio, which will celebrate its festival premiere at the Berlinale Palast.

“Garrone succeeds in re-telling the well-known story with his very own world of images. Although he is faithful to Carlo Collodi's ideas, he has nevertheless created a very personal Pinocchio that is much more cheerful than we've experienced before”, comments Carlo Chatrian.

Perspektive Deutsches Kino

Frauenpower in der Perspektive 

Zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt sind vier Filme in das Programm der Perspektive Deutsches Kino eingeladen, Abschluss- und Debütfilme aus dem fiktiven und dokumentarischen Bereich. Das Programm wird am Freitag, den 21.02.20, im Kino International mit dem Langfilmdebüt Kids Run von Barbara Ott eröffnet, die schon 2013 mit ihrem 30-minütigen Abschlussfilm Sunny aufgefallen ist und den FIRST STEPS Award gewonnen hat. Die Liste der ersten Filme finden Sie hier.

Empowerment in the Perspektive

Currently, four films have been selected for the Perspektive Deutsches Kino programme; graduation and debut films, all fiction or documentary. The programme will open on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Kino International with the feature-length film Kids Run by Barbara Ott, who previously gained recognition in 2013 with her 30-minute graduation film Sunny and won the FIRST STEPS award. Das Panorama bestätigt die ersten 18 Filme, davon elf Weltpremieren und fünf Debüts. Postmigrantische Perspektiven sowie spür- und sichtbare Generationswechsel im deutschen und internationalen Kino provozieren den Status Quo. Die Liste der ersten Filme finden Sie hier.

Panorama confirms the first 18 films, including eleven world premieres and five directorial debuts. Post-migration perspectives as well as distinct and visible generational changes in German and international cinema shake up the status quo. See the list of the first films here.

Generation 

Should I Stay or Should I Go? - Junge Menschen im Aufbruch 

20 Filme, darunter vier dokumentarische Formen, sieben Kurzfilme und fünf Debütfilme, sind bislang bei Generation Kplus und Generation 14plus bestätigt. Die Filme kommen aus 13 verschiedenen Produktionsländern. Deutschland ist mit drei und Frankreich mit sechs (Ko-)Produktionen besonders stark vertreten. Die vielgestaltigen Geschichten erzählen von jungen Menschen im Aufbruch, die sich selbst und neue Welten erkunden. Die Liste der ersten Filme finden Sie hier.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? - Young people on the move

20 films, encompassing four documentary forms, seven short films and five debut films, have so far been confirmed by Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus. The films come from a total of thirteen different production countries. Germany and France, with three and six (co-)productions respectively, are particularly strongly represented. The multi-faceted stories tell of young people on the move, exploring themselves and new worlds. See the list of the first films here.

Forum Expanded 

Erste Arbeiten für Forum Expanded bestätigt

Die Auswahl zum 15. Forum Expanded steht kurz vor ihrem Abschluss. Unter den bereits bestätigten Arbeiten sind neue Filme von Ana Vaz und Akram Zaatari sowie Installationen von Filipa César, Kika Thorne, Joe Namy, Forensic Architecture und The Otolith Group. Nach einem erfolgreichen Auftakt in den Räumen des silent green Kulturquartier wird die Gruppenausstellung auch 2020 wieder in der unterirdischen Betonhalle zu sehen sein. First Works Confirmed for Forum Expanded

The selection of the 15th Forum Expanded is nearly complete. Works already confirmed include new films by Ana Vaz and Akram Zaatari and installations by Filipa César, Kika Thorne, Joe Namy, Forensic Architecture and The Otolith Group. Following last year’s successful inaugural show at silent green Kulturquartier, this year’s group exhibition will be taking place there at the underground Betonhalle once again.
