All of us hoping the best for Shia LaBeouf are about to be rewarded. Say what you will about his bag-over-the-head former anti-fame performance art campaigns, Shia remains a bare knuckle talent on the screen. And you’ll see it for yourself on Aug. 9, when he stars with Dakota Johnson and newcomer Zack Gottsagen in THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON, a movie about doing crazy shit and making it up as you go along.

Or you can go by the official description from Roadside Attraction, Armory Films, and Endeavor/Content listed after the clip. Peanut Butter Falcon has a fresh feel to it, and frankly anything with Thomas Haden Church (SIDEWAYS) in it is always half-way great.

“A modern Mark Twain style adventure story, THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON tells the story of Zak (Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church).  A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler (LaBeouf), a small time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak’s return, to join them on their journey.”

Any way you want to frame this return to fun for Shia LaBoeuf, it’s also a nice proof of life for his career.
