Synopsis. In the middle of the Cold War, the XX c. two superpowers confronted each other in the field of the Space Race to show their superiority worldwide. Out of the blue, a third actor claimed a role in the Space conquer: Zambia. In the sixties, Edward Mukuka Nkoloso, director of Zambia’s National Academy of Science, Space Research and Philosophy, demanded Russia and NASA to support his Space Program in exchange for sharing his knowledge and technology to reach Mars. Was Nkoloso’s Space Program the result of the wild dreams of a mad man or a plot to conceal in Zambia the training camps for liberation armies? Nkoloso may have plotted, along with the first president of the postcolonial Zambia, one of the wittiest machinations against the British metropolis.
