New Art Cinema Award at the Cannes Film Festival

The CICAE and the AFCAE will launch a new Art Cinema Award at the Cannes Film Festival in consultation with the Cannes Film festival. The award will be introduced starting from the next edition of the festival.



This new award will be given to a film from the Official Selection (Competition and Un Certain Regard section) chosen from approximately 40 titles.



The international jury will be composed of seven members – all exhibitors. The value of the award consists in the commitment of a big number of arthouse cinemas choosing to programme the winning film. (*).



The aim is to show the strength of arthouse cinemas from all over the world, their dynamic character and their capacity to make authentic choices in their programming in an environment filled with media platforms. German, Italian, Polish, Hungarian and Canadian exhibitors have already agreed to participate in this project.



It is important that as many cinemas as possible pledge to programme the awarded film in their theatres.



In 2018 this award could have gone to Shoplifters, Girl, Cold War or Leto. In 2017 the winner could have been 120 BPM, The Square, Loveless, A Man of Integrity, to mention only a few of the titles that have been showcased widely in the art house cinemas.
