CHAMELEON picked up by APL
International sales company APL Film will represent Worldwide Sales on the new crime thriller Chameleon, which will make its market debut at Berlin, it was announced today. Warren Nimchuk, CEO of APL and APL President of Global Sales Brian Sweet negotiated the deal with the film’s writer, director and producer Marcus Mizelle (Actor For Hire, My Marilyn). The film is executive produced by Jillian Longnecker (Vice, If Beale Street Could Talk, Phantom Thread).
Chameleon stars Australian leading man Joel Hogan (Open Water 3: Cage Dive), Emmy-nominated Alicia Leigh Willis (General Hospital), Donald Prabatah (Sweet Rice), Jeff Prater (The Good Journey), Daniel Tolbert (BiFacial) and Acelina Kuchukova (Sleight). Hogan re-teams with Mizelle following their 2015 collaboration on Hollywood satire Actor for Hire.
Mizelle’s production label Forte Pictures & APL Film present Chameleon, which centers on a struggling ex-con and his unpredictable accomplice who scam superficial trophy wives and their rich older husbands in self-obsessed Los Angeles.
Mizelle said, “I wanted to try my hand at a non-linear crime thriller that flowed like one big montage - a series of reveals one after the next – and to create an atmospheric experience that would heighten our outcasts’ immoral journeys, as they try to get ahead by outsmarting the superficial system in place. But taking a shortcut to success never ends well, and karma is real.”
In addition to Chameleon, APL Film will be featuring Mad Frank, a UK film based on the real life story of the infamous gangster Frankie Fraser, starring Stephen Graham, Vickie McLure and Jim Broadbent - and Burners, a story about the difficult life choices of a gifted graffiti artist and his struggle to attain fame and respect, starring Rhianne Baretto, Ed Skrein, Nico Mirallegro and Bluey Robinson as part of their EFM slate.
Alongside Longnecker, executive producers of Chameleon are Paula Marcus (Grease) and Dustin Taylor (Actor for Hire). Nancy Kirhoffer (SMILF) and David Townsend (The Boy Next Door) serve as co-producers.
A commercial and music video director for labels such as Interscope and Atlantic records, Chameleon is Marcus Mizelle’s third feature film as writer/director. He also directed and produced My Marilyn, which premiered at last year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival, award-winning crime comedy Half Empty and The Reliever starring Cullen Moss (Hidden Figures). Chameleon is Mizelle’s follow-up to festival hit Actor for Hire.
Recognized as one of the top 35 Under 35 by The Hollywood Reporter, Jillian Longnecker’s EP credits include some of the biggest titles of the season, including 14 Oscar nominations this year alone, for Vice starring Christian Bale, Barry Jenkin’s If Beale Street Could Talk and The Coen brothers’ The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs. Longnecker’s credits also include Phantom Thread starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Detroit from Kathryn Bigelow and Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women.
