Unveiling the official selections of the 2019 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival

ANNOUNCING THE OFFICIAL SELECTIONS OF BSDFF 2019

The Big Sky Film Institute is proud to announce the official selections of the 2019 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, screening February 15-24 in Missoula, Montana. 

During the 10-day festival BSDFF will present 66 features and 102 short documentaries. The full lineup includes 47 World Premieres, 14 North American Premieres and 10 US Premieres. Films were selected from a record 2,000 submissions from 78 nations.

In addition to official selections, BSDFF is proud to present retrospective programs featuring the work of award-winning filmmakers Jeff & Michael Zimbalist, as well as filmmaker Travis Wilkerson who makes films in the tradition of the "third cinema," wedding politics and form in an indivisible manner.

During the heart of the festival, the DocShop Filmmaker's Forum will focus on “Documentary Filmmaking in the Age of Information,” exploring the challenges of contemporary storytelling careers, platforms for reaching audiences amidst fierce competition, the prolific world of online streaming and the ever-merging fields of documentary film and journalism.

Funded in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, DocShop will feature representatives from Women in Film, Al Jazeera, New York Times Op-Docs, American Experience, Atlantic Studios, America ReFramed, Cinetic Media, FilmRise, Tribeca Film Institute, Kickstarter, the International Documentary Association and ITVS.
