Manchester Film Festival 2018 Awards
Manchester Film Festival 2018 came to a close on Sunday night with a gala screening, in association with City Suites, of the powerful NONA.
Starring Kate Bosworth NONA focuses on the journey of a Honduran girl as she travels to America to reunite with her mother, however the journey is perilous when the man she trusted to help her is not all he seems.
The film was a fitting close to this year’s event, which saw MANIFF continue to grow its burgeoning reputation as a festival that champions independent cinema for all.
The screening was followed by an awards ceremony where the winners, including chief.tv Film of the Festival and Best Foreign Language Film Can’t Say Goodbye take home a coveted Manchester Bee.
Other big winners on the night were Damascus Cover for Best English Language Feature, James Cotten for Best Director for his film Painted Women, Yoshua for Best International Short, Sunday Worship for Best UK Short and Mad Hannans for Best Documentary. Best Screenplay went to Bernard and Huey.
This year’s acting awards went to Catherine Eaton for her stunning performance in The Sounding and Johnathan Rhys-Meyers for his complex work in Damascus Cover.
After the ceremony finished filmmakers, stars and festival staff saw out the night, and the festival, with a party at the Festival Hub.
