Dream Demon 30 years later...in Fantasporto

The 38th Porto International Film Festival, commonly known as FANTASPORTO, will take place between February 20 and March 4, with the competitions starting on February 23rd. All Cinema in the Rivoli Theater.

The motto "Fantas Goes Global" has been the hallmark of the Festival and the "Grand Cinema of the World" is the generic theme of this 38th edition, whose programming will be presented until the end of the month.

DREAM DEMON 30 YEARS LATER

The Festival also celebrates 30 Years of a British Horror Film classic, "Dream Demon," in the presence of director Harley Cokeliss, following the restoration and digitization of his cult film in 2017 by the British Film Institute. The film was present 29 years ago in Fantasporto, the contest. Harley Cockliss, reputed British director will be in Porto to talk about his film and his career.

B (LACK) MOVIES, the great surprise coming from Taiwan in a true world premiere in its remastered versions and the homage to master TSO-CHI CHANG

Absolutely not to miss the retrospective of Taiwan's B-Movies, influential examples of the change in the country's history when it separated from China and revolutionized the customs, society and the way of seeing the cinema and other artistic creations with their heroines who were opposed to men on an equal footing, and the fabulous staged fights of traditional martial arts.

An absolute highlight for the retrospective of the filmmaker Tso-Chi Chang, controversial filmmaker and screenwriter, master of the realist cinema of Taiwan, awarded at the Berlin, Tokyo, Thessaloniki, Taipei or Singapore festival and selected for the Venice Film Festival. All films are remastered coming to Oporto in collaboration with the Taiwan Film Institute and local producers.

Cinema Novo, this year celebrating its 40 years of existence, is the organizer of Fantasporto, a cultural cooperative recognized by the Portuguese State as a Private Organ of Public Utility, a Gold Medal of the Oporto City Council since 2005 and the Cultural Merit Medal of the Portuguese government.
