Documentary by Anniken Hoel, Norway 2017

Produced by MANIFESTO FILM

A sudden, unexpected death from prescription antipsychotics triggers a global investigation into the crimes of the pharmaceutical industry and the ways in which they turned dangerous, deadly medications into multi-billion-dollar blockbusters.

In 2005, director Anniken Hoel’s sister Renate died mysteriously while being treated with these medications. Wanting to learn more about what led to her untimely death, Anniken discovers that Renate was only one of many victims worldwide, and soon finds herself tracing threads of a complex system that takes her from a small town in Norway through the institutions, corporations, and halls of political power in both the EU and US.

A MODERN MAN

Documentary by Eva Mulvad, Denmark/Germany 2017

Produced by DANISH DOCUMENTARY

Young, beautiful, rich: Charlie Siem is the perfect modern man. A young, wealthy photo model for Hugo Boss – and even a first violinist with a growing crowd of worldwide fans. But is there also a human being behind the perfectionist? Success has a price in Eva Mulvad's new film. Multi-award winning director Eva Mulvad ('The Good Life', 'Enemies of Happiness') masters the delicate balance of providing a profoundly human insight into the nuances of a unique mind and an undeniable talent. An existential journey into a world of expectations and choices. A story about us - the free and wealthy - who seem to have it all but are always on the hunt for more.

THE TRIAL

The State of Russia vs. Oleg Sentsov

"Stand-out title" (Screen)

"One of 10 Best Movies of Berlin Film Festival" (Variety)

Documentary by Askold Kurov, Estonia/Poland/Czech Republic 2017

Produced by MARX FILM and MESSAGE FILM

Oleg Sentsov is a Ukrainian filmmaker and native of Crimea. After Russia´s annexation of Crimea in May 2014, Sentsov was arrested by the Russian security agency, charged with planned terrorist attacks and transported to Moscow. In August 2015, despite insufficient evidence, the case inconsistencies and the key witness’s change of testimony, the Russian court sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Director Askold Kurov follows the progress of the trial and attempts of Oleg’s family, friends and lawyers to save him from prison. Kurov’s investigation gradually reveals an absurd and frightening Kafkaesque story about how anyone can become a victim of a ruthless state machine.

LETTERS FROM BAGHDAD

with TILDA SWINTON as the voice of Gertrude Bell

Documentary by Sabine Krayenbühl & Zeva Oelbaum, US/UK/France 2016

Produced by BETWEEN THE RIVERS PRODUCTIONS

Letters From Baghdad is the story of a true original—Gertrude Bell—sometimes called the “female” Lawrence of Arabia. Voiced and executive produced by Academy award winning actor Tilda Swinton, the film tells the story of this British spy, explorer and political powerhouse who helped draw the borders of Iraq. Using never-seen-before archival footage of the region, the film chronicles Bell’s extraordinary journey into the Arabian Desert and the inner sanctum of British male colonial power. It is a unique look at both a complex woman and the tangled history of Iraq that is eerily current.
