We lost them last year.
Fisher died at the age of 60 on December 27, 2016, four days after going into cardiac arrest. near the end of a transatlantic flight from London to Los Angeles, and the following day her mother died from a stroke.
Hard to believe she was only Sixty -- practically a kid from our perspective!! -- And the shock of her early death was undoubtedly the death blow for mother Debbie. Terrible double tragedy of people we think of almost as part of our collective movie family.
This is like a double exclamation point marking the end of an era. A one-two blow to the collective solar plexus. Not that I was ever a particularly great fan of either Debbie or Carrie -- but on a personal level it makes me truly sad -- especially for the surviving family members who must be in a state of shock.
Yep, shocking.
Two favorite movies come to mind: Of course Debbie in Singing in the Rain, but also Carrie, not for her Star Wars roles, but for her part in The (marvelous) Blues Brothers. and another favorite, When Harry Met Sally. A lot of people who worked with Carrie must be terribly sad. Myself, I just feel like crying.
