INVENTION
A film by Mark Lewis
Shot in Paris, São Paulo and Toronto, Invention is the first feature-length film by Mark Lewis. Lewis captures the ever-changing textures of these cities through moving images of glass, light, shadows and reflections, offering an homage to the City Symphony films of the 1920s, while also juxtaposing modernist architecture with the compositional structures of old master paintings.
Mark Lewis is a leading contemporary visual artist who started as a photographer then moved into making film-based installations, forming part of the 1980s photo conceptual movement of The Vancouver School. He represented Canada at the Venice Biennale in 2009 and is now UK-based.
